Lawlessness

As Is The Feeling,
So Is The Result.

It is the lawlessness. If not stopped soon, it will beget lawlessness in the other direction, such as masses of citizens refusing to pay taxes for lawless government. CCP would like us to be ACC, but that is not in our genotype. I suspect it is not really in the Chinese genotype either, because lawlessness is anti-human, anti-Dharma, and the same Lord indwells in all . . . and abominates lawlessness.

In the late 60s, as assistant chaplain, on an intern year from seminary, at a private university in SoCal, I had occasion to attend a conference at The Mission Inn in Riverside, CA, one of my favorite locations (I love Colonial Spanish architecture). I met there a Benedictine from Valyermo. I liked him and he acquiesced to engage in conversation. Strolling slowly around a raised fish pond in an interior courtyard, I asked him, “Father Meehan, where does authority lie.” He replied, as we walked slowly, “If you ask any Catholic Theologian where authority lies, and you show that you are sincere, any Catholic Theologian will tell you that authority lies in the heart of the believer.” He emphasized the word any.

I think we as citizens and as a nation are asking that question with increasing vigor and even panic. I think Father Meehan’s answer to the question remains accurate. I think the Indweller in every heart, even the non-believer’s, is the answer that, when kept firmly in mind, satisfies and can quieten the panic. Lawlessness that Indweller abominates and does not long tolerate. There, I think, in the heart of each of us, is the answer to the question of authority. It is the same answer and the same authority in each heart, which is what makes each of us personally sacred. We are different clothes on the same body.

Ben Weingarten: Trump’s Greatest Achievement: The president has exposed the rot and corruption of our ruling class.

Birth as human is the final stage in the upward evolution of the 840,000 species of living beings. In previous lives, one may have been an insect, worm, bird or an animal and are perhaps now displaying those traits despite the presence of the divine qualities. For example, pride is not an innate human quality; it’s the natural trait of a buffalo. If you display pride, ask yourself, were you a buffalo in a previous life and are unable to shed this inherited quality? Some exhibit stupid stubbornness, which is a sheep’s quality, not a human trait. Sometimes some indulge in petty thefts, akin to a cat. Similarly, the vacillating and fickle nature displayed reminds a previous life as a monkey. Some are incurably ungrateful; indulge even in harming those who help them. The serpent is notorious, for emitting poison even when fed with milk. Isn’t it high time that you truly introspect within and promote beneficial human values in you?
