My comment to a post today by Steven Hayworth at Power Line Blog:
Angela Merkel already has been building a joint armed forces from the assets of several Germanic nations, to include the Dutch IIRC. Since Merkel/Europe has given itself over to Eurabia, I suspect Russia sees Merkel’s joint force as de facto Salafist. If they do not, they are stupid, because it is. Anything military/political coming out of former-Europe now is Salafist-oriented because that orientation is the biggest harum-scarum in their area. Salafists are the rampant ones in Eurabia. No one else is. So Merkel has to be working for them, one way and another. Tariq Ramadan must be very pleased. Brits voted to leave Eurabia none too soon.
Eurabia is the fact of life west of the Vistula. To look elegant rather than merely expensive (NATO HQ), former-Europe has to meet in Christian Italian Monastic ruins. This will not be lost on POTUS Trump, an elegant man.
So from Russia’s POV, she now has Salafist Jihad not only on her east but also on her west. And Angela is not going to start a war with Russia for Germanic reasons, just use the pretext of threat from Russia to build a force to put at service of the rampant modern voice of former-Europe: Salafi Jihad. Russia has the world’s most nightmarish border security problem: no natural barriers on the world’s longest or perhaps second longest (after Canada?) border.
IOW, The German/Germanic Army is going under Salafi Dhimmitude as Janissaries … and maybe the Russians are the only ones seeing this? I know, sounds crazy. But look at it as power vectors and their differential force measurements, not through the prisms of existing treaties, civil habits, philosophies, legalisms, expectations, privileged assumptions, private combinations or — God Help Us! — principles.
Americans want to be represented by elegant, agile, patriotic cynosures. One volunteered for the job — at no little personal risk and absolutely no obligation — and Americans elected him. Last one I knew before this one was John F. Kennedy. Thandava!

Merkel’s musings reflect strategic considerations, especially the Germanic nations’ self-mutilation by weaponized empathy (aka, in social science jargon, constructivism). Now they are Salafi. But Marx and his minions are not right. Race, culture, state, gender and community are not social constructs merely. German power today is fuzzy, not smart. And it belongs to the new-arrivals, the ones still unconfused about where babies come from, not to the natives, who are confused about that.
Merkel has no idea what she and her minions have done to themselves. But since they are not now what they used to be, and since they have no allegiance to their own self-interest — thinking they have gifted the world the Glorious Valhalla of Humanity Version 4 — the state they steward is a loose cannon on a very flat, very wide, very long deck of a very laden ship pitching about in very heaving seas.
Russia sees Salafi Jihad to her west now as well as to her east and is not amused. Nor should be any American savant of history.
Traditionally, Germany sees two European problems/enemies: Russia to the east and France to the west. Now, as Salafi, she and her fellow Germanic nations face three trans-continental problems/enemies: Russia to the east, USA to the west and India to the south. For this reason, she contemplates raising not NATO but a force from the Germanic components of the EU. This, specifically, is what Chancellor Merkel means by Germans taking charge of their own fate. They haven’t really learned a blessed thing. And other nations will have to fight them down again.
Update 1: North Germanics plus Finland are coming around to self-defense, which means, self-sovereignty. By making them do this, POTUS Trump has nailed shut the coffin of global governance and buried it deep and lastingly. One ounce of common sense at the point appropriate puts effective tons at the point needed.
