The Fred Hof Class Non Mea Culpa

RAMANAM
In the Name of The Father, and of The Son and of The Holy Spirit, Amen.

Countrymen,

Richard Fernandez today posts under almost the title of this post.  He addresses this essay by Fred Hof.

Richard takes Fred for issuing a mea culpa.  Most of his commenters do also.  Some do not.  I do not.

I hear Fred moaning about not having his hands on the levers of power.  Moreover, I hear him speaking for his entire blighted class of Poison Ivy League intelligentsiya, whose actual estate of learning and in particular measure of wisdom is somewhere south of cretinous, and whose loyalty to their mother country is far south of treasonous.

On Richard’s post I commented:

I read Hof’s essay start to finish and feel slimed.  He sounds more like a CIA puke than a DoS weenie.  He has not questioned his deep assumptions at all.  His vision is tactical rather than strategic and narrow rather than regional.  And he is full of hope.  Hope made this mess, and he still has it!?!  His implied strategic goal is the same “peace on earth good will towards men” gruel — stripped of theological nourishment — high-bred fasco-commies have dished out to themselves and other lazy for better than a century.  He sees America as the world’s wet nurse, not as a sovereign nationstate.  He is not a statesman.  Worst of all, he wants back in, he misses quiet hands on secret levers.  Ego has him, so he ends cutely.  The man is a mountebank.

This matter is very important.  One should not be eager to accept into the company of the sensible and loyal apparent converts from the throes of madness merely upon their representations of regret.  Regret can mean the opposite of what an auditor might want it to mean.  Actual conversion is a turning around and heading in exactly the opposite direction from the one at which one was moving.

I expect not a few Poison Ivy League intelligentsiya sidelined by the Poison Ivy League dear boys holding power to follow Hof into the appearance of conversion and the reality of regret: that they are not in power and the dear boys — but not their dear boys — are.

When a person of Hof’s class deep-challenges their own assumptions, finds the errors and corrects them, that is, when they crucify their ego and join the company of the sensible and loyal, then surely that company can throw them a welcome-home party.  Mere regret does not deserve that response.

Update 1: VDH: A Liberal’s Ten Commandments

Update 2: Moslem Brotherhood tours TSA facilities and procedures at MSP.  I commented:

Oppenheimer — a KGB deep operator — argued for unilateral US nuclear disarmament on grounds of “setting a good example” that would convince the Soviet to do likewise.  After hearing Oppie out once in these terms, Dean Acheson remarked to an aide in exasperation, “How can you persuade a paranoid adversary [the Soviet] to disarm ‘by example?’”  Of course, Oppie’s mission was to nudge US policy to aid Soviet expansion.

Today’s red diaper babies and grand-babies use Oppie’s argument to nudge US policy to aid vectors promising to undo American institutions and strip out American self-confidence.  Inviting the Muslim Brotherhood to reconnoiter US defense facilities and procedures is right in line with that.  Bill Clinton did the same and more for the Chinese.

Update 3: Advantage VDH

Obama-Churchill might have said something like the following in regards to the 1938 Munich Agreement.

“We live in a complex world and at a challenging time. And none of these challenges lend themselves to quick or easy solutions, but all of them require British leadership. If we stay patient and determined, then we will, in fact, meet these challenges. The Munich Agreement is a comprehensive government agreement. It is the first that actually constrains Nazi Germany from further aggression, and one whose provisions are transparent and enforceable. It is a sober and judicious way to preclude war and to bring Germany back into the family of nations and to become a credible regional power, while allowing the German people to express their legitimate aspirations.”’
