RAMANAM
In the Name of The Father, and of The Son and of The Holy Spirit, Amen.
Countrymen,
GRAZIE! Bob Belvedere, for posting
this declamation as a Thought For The Day.
The question is rarely verbalized and just as rarely considered. Yet it stands swirling at the center of every person’s every decision.
The easiest answer to the question, that meeting the least resistance and making the most appearance, is: Yes, man can save himself. Vast industries are erected to cultivate, coerce and coddle that answer to the question. Big money, very big money, with very powerful protections, is in those industries.
And The Lord has them in derision.
Man can help himself. Indeed, he must. He may not save himself. Indeed, he cannot.
Ironically, the premise that man can save himself – such as by realizing/maximizing his potentials – proceeds from a low estimate of man’s nature. Assumed – usually without recognition – is that man is not good as is. He needs improving. Something added.
Just as ironically, the premise that man cannot save himself – not in any way, shape or form – proceeds from a high estimate of man’s nature. Assumed – usually with recognition – is that man is good as is. He needs liberating. Something removed.
Secularists look out ad pejorem. Sages look out ad meliorem. Progressives see problems, foul winds. Constitutionalists see opportunities, fair winds. We are what we see.
