Prologue
The concept of imperialism — and its related concept, colonialism — begs rethinking and re-appreciation.
The current innuendo regarding imperialism has it a bad thing. But is it, and do we really think it is?
Usually the same people who spit at imperialism evince reverence for, say, [mighty] Rome or Imperial Russia, and especially, of course, for The [Imperial] Soviet.
Again, disparagement of imperialism is a globalists‘ tick — or a caliphists’ one — and globalists — as well as caliphists — count as arguably history’s most enthusiastic and emphatic practitioners of imperialism in exactly the terms they claim to abhor it.
And why is sending American Soldiers on a medical/perimeter mission to a foreign country not imperialism?
Imperialism in the sense of activity inside a foreign country is a natural consequence of a country’s power of being, its facticity.
Every country tries to influence foreign countries to its benefit. The influence will be as wide and deep as a country can make it. This is to be expected as nature, not condemned as evil or even undesirable.
Stalin wanted to stomp about in everyone else’s country but hated anyone else stomping about in his? One does not eat one’s cake and have it too.
Unless, that is, it is not imperialism one hates but the facticity of nation states per se (at least, other than one’s own) … because one wants to be a global hegemonic imperialist unimpeded by [other?] nation states.
I think that is where Globalists (aka leftists) and Caliphists really are. Like Communists before them, they condemn imperialism other than their own.
Penultimately, Globalist/Caliphist malevolence towards the USA is for her alleged imperialism (Globalist oikophobia for their mother country, though not for their plans to defenestrate her). But ultimately, it is for the USA’s existing at all and thereby being an obstruction to Globalist/Caliphist dreams of global hegemony.
In that regard, the circulating notion that, for Globalists/Caliphists, encouraging a pandemic on US population is a feature not a bug is right on the truth of what they are feeling right now: elation at the prospect of vast human elimination and destruction of nation states for the hegemonic imperialists to replace with themselves as true imperatori.

Assumptions
The chief expression of a land, its families and their constitution is the sovereign nation state they comprise. There is not and will not be a succeeding supreme political expression of human endeavor. Globalists/Caliphists are dreaming, building cloud-castles, when they speak of a global hegemony ruled by themselves. Such will never be. Dreams of such should be and here are dismissed as fevered phantasms of malicious juvenile ambition. The sovereign nation state — and lots of them — is humanity’s supreme political expression.
The nation state is the form of civilization.
Civilization is a sovereign, successful nation state.
The borders of nation states can develop over time. Their religious, moral and political composition can develop over time. Their legal structure can develop over time. Times and climes are inconstant and lands, families and constitutions adjust to that inconstancy. But the fact of the nation state is constant. The nation state adjusts to times and climes but remains a nation state, perhaps not always sovereign, but always itself.
Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. From Ulysses by Alfred, Lord Tennyson
The normal business of nation states is protecting the integrity of their land, their families and their constitution and impartially regulating their affairs. If its leaders are not conducting that business, a nation state will find a way to install leaders who will. If another nation state threatens the normal conduct, by its leaders, of a nation state’s business, the threatened nation state will submit to the threat or attempt, successfully or not, to remove it.
The normal business of a nation state comprises four equally important vectors of endeavor: teaching, protecting, growing/making/selling and crafting. The nature of those vectors of endeavor is to expand their influence and intensify their effectiveness.
Accordingly, interactions between nation states are by nature vigorous and passionate. This is normal and necessary. Leaders expect and prepare for it. They do not evince dissatisfaction with or distaste for it. Leaders enjoy the bracing winds of interaction between nation states. Nation states so engaged advance themselves, which is to say, they keep civilization fresh and vital.
When a nation state abandons vigorous and passionate interaction with another nation state in favor of subjugating that nation state’s sovereignty by harming or commandeering its assets, a state of war exists between those nation states. Wanting/attempting to subjugate a nation’s sovereignty by harming or commandeering its assets is the definition of inter-national aggression.
War’s only outcome is victory by one party and unconditional surrender by another. There is no other way to end war. There is no such thing as a peace process. Enmity must be atoned. Warring parties will fight until one wins (victory) and the other loses (unconditional surrender). This is necessary and proper. No agreement to stop fighting will end a state of war. Only victory by one and unconditional surrender by the other can do that. Representatives of the government of a nation defeated in war must attend a public surrender ceremony and publicly sign documents of unconditional surrender of their nation to the victorious power.
Because vigorous and passionate interaction between sovereign nation states is all but guaranteed to become aggression by one or the other — which is to say, inter-national relations is all but guaranteed to produce a state of war — fundamentally, war will remain man’s means of creating, integrating and maintaining the nation state, which is to say, civilization. Civilization is the result of war and has no other source.
War [conflict] is the father of all things. [Love is the mother of all things.]
Heraclitus
The purpose of war is victory indicated by the unconditional surrender of an aggressor nation. The mission of war is to occupy an aggressor nation for as long as it takes to extirpate that nation’s will to aggress. The sovereign nation state is a good thing. The will to aggress using it is not.
About none of the above should be a tone of disapproval. It is the way of things and the way of nations. There is no alternative to playing the game the way it is presented by the nature of man, the powers of nation states and the teleology of history, all of which are constants.
The defeat of a nation is followed by its occupation by the victorious power. Victory confers responsibility. A people who are in surrender and have lost their government have lost their ability to protect themselves and to regulate their affairs. They are exposed and vulnerable, in extremis. Their victor is obliged to make them safe and strong.
Classical COIN and CT doctrines describe the initial fundamentals of successful occupation. First, ensure the defeated people are fed, watered, housed and sanitized — COIN. Second, eliminate resistance to the occupation — CT. [In Middle Eastern countries, this means incarcerating and prosecuting imams and Koran scholars, destroying materiel inside their mosques and leveling those mosques.]
Then, incentivize and protect native private enterprise that is honest and reliable.
Next, facilitate nation-rebuilding by such native leader cadre as emerge during the occupation. Nation-protection is the responsibility of the victorious power. Nation-rebuilding is the responsibility of the defeated people. The victorious power is not tasked to rebuild the defeated nation, although it does guide native rebuilding effort so as to permit no reemergence of aggression towards the victorious power. Restored sovereign nationhood — sans belligerence — in the community of nation states is the goal of natives rebuilding their nation.
To native nation rebuilding efforts the victorious power supplies expertise, military and civilian, to assist restoration endeavors. But the concept, design and muscle of restoration/rebuilding is native-born, with one exception: rebuilding to favor the concepts, class or individuals which and who formerly produced aggressive actions against the victorious power that power does not allow. In the Middle East, this means the victorious power does not allow a national constitution which establishes Koran, Sharia or imams as its content or as its conceptual, moral or religious center or guide. Constitutions of defeated nation states must be secular with the principle of impartiality as their center and guide.
The word globalist for the words leftist, progressive or liberal — even the words communist or socialist — improves specificity and contemporaneity. Globalist ideology/dreaming is a product of the soi-disant social sciences, which were created to attack and defeat Christianity — the defeat part being a forlorn hope. Wahhabism/Salafism/Caliphism — a puritanical legalist movement — was created to attack and defeat the Enlightenment movements of 17th and 18th Century Europe and the Americas — the defeat part being, once again, a forlorn hope.
Globalists and Caliphists are subjects of arrested development. They are permanent adolescents. Their interactions are those of physical, mental and spiritual defectives. Mature persons are neither Globalists nor Caliphists.
A Globalist or Caliphist wants one car on the road. Theirs.
Observations
The Legacy Of Bernard Lewis by Robert R. Reilly
There is no clash of civilizations. There is a clash of nations. In fact, there are three clashes of nations, two patent and one latent. The patent clashes of nations are (1) Globalists against the USA and her allies and (2) Caliphists against every nation. The latent clash of nations is China (and here) against the USA and her allies. The USA is target one for every dissatisfied troublemaker in the world. What an honor!
The greatest strategic stroke the USA can make is to form alliance with Russia and India against Globalists and Caliphists and then against China (and here). One day — with luck sooner than later — this will happen. China (and here) today sees that potential alliance and moves vigorously to prevent its actualization. She will not succeed ultimately.
Technically, there is no imperialism these days because there is no imperium. So we are not discussing imperialism, we are discussing inter-national influence-making among nation states. The blab against imperialism is of Communist origin, which makes it more than a little rich because Communists are imperialists, in the manner they mean the term, of the first water. Globalism is the current formulation of Communism and Globalists are those who know they can do it better than Stalin: actually make Christianity disappear, forever and ever.
A nation’s efforts to influence other nations for its benefit are ordinary and to be expected. Neither covert nor overt efforts of this type are causes for war.
However, a nation’s effort to harm another nation can be a cause for war depending on how that harm and effort are evaluated by the nation subject to it. Life is an on-going assembly and parade under review by a nation’s leader cadre as well as by others.
When determination that harm meant or done by a nation to their nation is made by the subject nation’s leader cadre, that cadre may declare war on the aggressor nation. However, before they do, they should determine whether they (1) can bring the contemplated war to victory for their nation and (2) are willing to resource occupation of the defeated nation for a length of time sufficient to extirpate therefrom desire therein to harm their nation.
If the answer to both of those considerations is affirmative, leader cadre tasks their military leadership to conduct war against the aggressor nation in terms laid out in the Assumptions section above. And leaves them to it, supplying what they need to accomplish unconditional surrender of the aggressor nation by representatives of its government.
A nation, in pursuing its interests vis-a-vis other nations, fronts divers vectors: commercial, educational, cultural, religious, financial, military, diplomatic, familial, aesthetic, moral, dietary … the length of the list of vectors is co-terminus with the catalogue of human activities. This is unremarkable and to be expected.
So much of the news is no news at all but merely propaganda, other tales or voyeurism. A people should understand that their media enjoy to stir their hearts and minds to mutiny and rage or parrot tendentiousness by certain or intending leader cadre. They also should understand that their own proclivities frequently are not of the refined.
George W. Bush is a fine man, a good man. He has been all along and remains so. Several mistakes were made on his watch in re what his team called GWOT:
1- The nation was not put on war footing on 12SEP01.
2- The enemy — Caliphism, a pretension of religion that supersedes nation states — was not identified.
3- The war against Iraq, which was just because Saddam was behind both attacks on the WTC — besides being a shit-head of the first water — was not conceived to drive towards occupation and rehabilitation of Iraq. General Shinseki was right: 600K US troops were needed to restore Iraq to the community of nations.
4- COIN and CT were not started immediately upon the fall of Baghdad and Tikrit.
5- Sadr and most other imams — and their lieutenants and mosques — were not neutralized within a week of the fall of Baghdad.
6- Koran/Sharia was allowed into the center of the new Iraqi constitution.
7- The Caliphist CAIR — and its military affiliate Hamas — was taken into the Executive Branch as senior advisor in every silo thereof. There it remains, fortified since 2009 by the Caliphist-supporting Globalist criminal organization. CAIR (aka Moslem Brotherhood, and here) today IS the Government of the USA.
8- The lie that there were no WMDs, usable WMDs or WMD programs in Iraq was allowed to stand.
9- The CIA’s treachery and the NYT’s treason were allowed to stand.
10- Media were treated as useable communicators when in fact they were — and remain — enemies of the USA. Media are Globalists, to include FNC.
These mistakes by the GWB team allowed Globalists to forge alliance with Caliphists and lay hands on the mechanisms of government in the USA.

Update 2: Paul A. Rahe: … the inexorable growth of the administrative regulatory, welfare state is itself a threat to our capacity to govern ourselves.
Update 3: On 04 February 2015, the 274th anniversary of the birth of Andrzej Tadeusz Bonawentura Kościuszko, Don Surber wrote appreciatively of General Kościuszko. Theological Geography has honored the great Pole and American of Polish descent in several posts. A friend of Theological Geography, Dr. Marek Jan Chodakiewicz, sent these bits of color in the picture of General Kościuszko:
Kosciuszko freed his serfs before he came to the U.S. So I doubt his reflex to help black slaves erupted suddenly because of the South.
The Kosciuszkos were from Merekowszczyzna outside of Minsk. That was about 500 miles away from Mscislaw (Mstislav), outside of which my family sat at the time.

Update 7: On 27 January 2015, Marine GEN (Ret.) James N. Mattis addressed the United States Senate Armed Services Committee on the subject A New American Grand Strategy. At Hoover Institution, who published an adapted version of General Mattis’ address, I commented — with edits here — as follows:
Not that it matters, but, I both appreciate and despond over General Mattis’ address here. Appreciate because (1) as a genuine warrior he says what he sees and eloquently and (2) his heart is unalloyed courage and compassion. Despond because (1) his address reflects lack of situational awareness — half his auditors at least regard the nation state, including USA, as obsolete and perishing — and (2) his address, although latterly specifying or implying serious tactical weaknesses of current operations, transits the periphery of his title: grand national strategy.
It is rare for a military leader to grasp and execute the several strands — principally diplomatic, economic and military, but others as well — of grand national strategy sufficiently to create a rational grand national strategic *goal* that is also inspirational. It is rare for anyone to be able to do that. General David Petraeus has that ability, which is why the Anti-American, Globalist-partisan US Justice [so-called] Department is persecuting/prosecuting him. Asking Congress or a bureaucracy to develop that ability and execute with it compares with asking a herd of cats to organize an expedition to summit Annapurna. Distilling and serving a happy grand national strategic *goal* is a personal, leadership thing few can do, but some definitely can and do accomplish. Their thoughts merit discovery and attendance.
The cynosure of a nation is not her grand national strategy. It is her grand national strategic *goal.* Given what we see now, project and anticipate — always expecting the unexpected, as General Mattis mentions, thankfully, in his address — where and what do we want to be as a nation three, five, ten, etc. years hence? What is our goal? What do we really, truly — as a nation — want for and of ourself to be, to do, to think? What is our inner necessity as a nation? What are we on this earth to accomplish as a national presence? And why do members of Congress not live in the states from which they were selected for office?
Related: On 04 March 2015 Marine GEN (Ret.) James N. Mattis wrote for Hoover Institution under title Using Military Force Against ISIS. I commented:
I am content that GEN (Ret.) Mattis’ thinking, clear and compelling, be expressed in public. Thank you, General! Our countrymen are working their way towards how they will think and what they will do when they are quit of the hag riding their back. And they will be that. This exercise in preparation for the restoration of national sovereignty and wealth flowing from national moral and intellectual strength is what should be happening and what is happening. I am content.
Update 8: Rattlebrain Robert D. Kaplan oh-so-daringly proposes imperialism under another name, which he does not offer. I commented at Instapundit, who carried the link:
Millions of lives disrupted or lost and crickets from the ruling class. But take their blessed Palmyra and, OMG, we (ruling class, who has only their own interests at heart) need to restore order and rehabilitate imperialism under a different name … not even giving it! Weakling! Unintelligent buffoon! Cultured despiser of religion! Here is how to bring quiet (Kaplan uses order) to the ME.

Update 11: I condemn The Frankfurt School and all its disciples for their poisonous posture called tikkun olam (fixing the world).

Update 13: A statement regarding equating Christianity with Communism:
Several New Testament parables are used, since decades, to equate Christianity with Communism. Virtually the entire “mainline denomination” leadership, to include now Roman Catholics, concurs at least in principle with that equation. Thus the pews empty out, which, remarkably, convinces that leadership to embrace leftist manners and language more tightly: cut loose by God, let’s be saved by politics.
Christianity brightly distinguishes the realm of civil authority and law from the realm of religious authority, which transcends civil authority and law and has no law of its own. Each realm has its utility, powers and necessity (“Give unto Caesar….”) and neither has authority to control or dominate the other.
The relationship between religion and science is the same. They are about different matters entirely, without intersection, confirmation or conflict. Like civil authority and religious authority, however, they are parallel, indomitable vectors of human experience and history.
