Behind Iran today is messianic millenarianism which, as with all heresy, is dangerous and therefore insomnia-inducing.
I think at this point it gets down to whether the Western nations have the guts to strike preemptively, convincing their citizens this had to be done, or they wait until the first nukes fall — on Haifa, Baghdad, Vienna, Constantinople, etc — to use that fright to justify nuking Iran, which is the only solution, and the one they want.
That solution has the positive outcome, at least, of disproving their millenarianism, so their ideology will be evacuated. Of course, along the way many of our and their sons and daughters will lose their lives … and our friends … and ourselves. Temporizing is costly.
Evil is inherently self-destructive, despite its seemingly indomitable activity. Evil has no being on its own. It exists only in the presence of, as a threat of non-being to, good. Evil relies on good for its existence.
For years, their ayatollahs have told them that we, USA specifically, citizens and government, will drown if they but spit on us. That combined with their millenarianism creates a John Brown v. R.E. Lee at Harper’s Ferry scenario.
Will USA and Europe nerve storming the arsenal despite the hostages inside it?
At the Ferry, the voice of a hostage came through the door saying, “Don’t mind us, go ahead and shoot.” Lee recognized it as that of a gentleman of his own orbit, a veteran of the Revolution, and said softly to his aide, “The old blood does tell.” Then he ordered in the Marines.
Never is the question, who is good and who is bad. Always is the question, who is right and who is wrong.
Shiites are heretics, especially the Iranian variety. They will drown when spit upon, but it will have to be plenty of spit, because for them there is no alternative to drowning. They are ready to usher in the new millennium, rather like Koresh, also a millenarian, and with himself as the Christ! Likely one of the boys at Qom today has announced himself privately as the 12th Imam.
Thus, perhaps, target Qom first … ?
