At Valley Forge, Washington and Von Steuben forged an army that could defeat the King’s professional soldiers.  Professional armies cannot be defeated by bushwhackers or other irregulars.  Men behind trees did not win the Revolution.  Trained, drilled, well-led, sufficiently-supplied soldiers did.

Thus I get nauseous reading statements like, I got guns and friends with guns.  If you are not a reliable part of a large, well-regulated (drilled, trained) maneuver element, with sound logistics supporting you, and under experienced, dedicated command, your guns and friends are worthless in a fight with a professional strategic or tactical force.

This is not news.  I like to repeat it when occasion arises.  I do wish the Trump Admin and state governors and legislatures would encourage Civil Defense Battalions attached to local law enforcement agencies.  Reiterate Valley Forge across the fruited plain as a permanent American asset under local control.
