The grand strategic objective of everyone in the Middle East, excepting Iranian theocrats, is to prevent Iran ruling from Tehran to Beirut.  With that objective in mind, and others, Gulf Arab governments have subsidized Salafi Jihad movements in Iraq and Syria.  As have elements of the Syrian, Turkish and US governments.

Those Salafi Jihad movements, predictably, took on their own objectives, to include biting governments who subsidize them.  Now one such Salafi movement, an AQ/Moslem Brotherhood arm, has either committed a false flag operation against the government of Syria, who is winning its war against Salafi movements, or is using an unintended hit by Syrian air on a poison gas factory or storage facility owned by the movement to outrage the world against the enemy defeating the movement: the government of Syria.

Simply defenestrating the government of Syria, at this point, is pointless.  It leaves Salafi Jihad in place and encourages Salafi movements and their subsidizers in governments of MENA and the USA to declare victory and redouble efforts — and not only in Syria.  It picks or at least risks an absolutely, screamingly insane fight with Russia, whose interest in Syria is water-related, not government-related.  It leaves chaos over the land between Tehran and Beirut — and theocrats know how to exploit chaos.  And it further exposes the Levant, Jordan and Iraq to Salafi and Shi’a Jihads.

Defenestrating the government of Syria would help no one deserving help and hurt many deserving it.

What would help?  Statecraft would.  This would:

Call a meeting.  Let the big boys decide how they want Syria to settle out.  Let Russia, USA and India jointly convene and host the meeting.  Purpose of the meeting:

(1) redraw the borders of Iraq and Jordan to include portions of Syria,

(2) reward Kurds plentifully for their decades of good citizenship and hard fighting for freedom and independence,

(3) give Alawites assurance of their traditional areas of the Levant,

(4) give Russia assurance of her Levantine ports, and

(5) give the USA assurance of not needing to hold hands or bandage booboos in MENA.

Invite Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, Israel, al-Saud, Iraqi and Syrian Kurds and Alawites.  Maybe Turkey, but likely not, because Turkey has designs, once again, on Arab lands and Kurdish ones.

What the big boys decide in this manner is final.  Russia, USA and India declare their resolve to enforce it if necessary.  Meanwhile, all parties come down like a ton of bricks on Salafi and Shi’a Jihads and not merely Salafi and Shi’a Jihadis.  Jihad itself must be poisoned at its root.

I plan to post on that subject, the counter-narrative to Jihad itself, at a later date.  The counter-narrative to Jihad itself, especially Salafi Jihad, is the big game, as they say.  Jihadis will not disappear until the big game is played successfully against their nutrient earth, so to speak.  More on that later.
