What I see, so far, that is certain:
1- Mike Flynn has resigned as NSA.
2- Entertainment/Education-Media Complex are hysterically happy and bloodthirsty.
3- Many Foreign Affairs and Intel types abominate DJT.
4- Some Foreign Affairs and Intel types have committed sedition and many more applaud that.
5- USA posture towards Russia defines the battlespace.
6- Neither one nor all of the above completes a description of this battle.
7- The revolutionary war in which this battle is an event tests USA national sovereignty/patriotism, yea or nay.
8- Therefore, Open Society and Moslem Brotherhood are revolutionary combatants seconding seditious Foreign Affairs and Intel types.
9- Therefore, practically every secret service in the world is laboring to protect DJT because he respects their national sovereignty/patriotism and know that those who abominate him do not.
What I observe, so far, but that may be observed inaccurately:
1- Mike Flynn is uncomfortable or unhappy in pictures of him at Team Trump meetings.
2- Mike Flynn is an intel, not a kinetic guy, unlike his younger brother, also a General Officer, but kinetic. Ergo, Mike is unsuited to managing kinetic personnel, such as are at NSC, DOS and DOD.
What I suspect, so far, but about which I may be mistaken:
1- Mike Flynn, a good man and an exceptionally fine intel officer, wanted out of the NSA role. He realized it is not his métier.
2- His letter of resignation is a panegyric to the Team from which he is resigning. Not a sign of one forced out or in disgrace.
3- POTUS Trump likes Flynn but saw him as an under-performing manager. Did not fire him. Asked for his resignation. Very different, especially for POTUS Trump. More an agreement between good men on a way to concretize their priorities.
4- SECDEF Mattis, a kinetic champion par excellence, expressed to POTUS his displeasure at having to be screened by an intel weenie.
5- SECSTATE Tillerson, also a kinetic champion, though not military, seconded SECDEF Mattis in that particular.
I think underlying this business is a trial over whether Russia is to be viewed as an enemy or as a working partner. Deep state boys of the IC, the ones Bill Kristol loves, built their trenches, silos and rice bowls viewing Russia as an enemy. Come Trump and Flynn to say Russia can be a working partner. Naturally, deep state boys are going to go ballistic.
Yes, the deep state boys hate DJT and his team, as does Bill Kristol, but why? It cannot be merely personal distaste or revulsion. No one goes to this much trouble for that. It has to be that deep personal welfare/prestige is felt imperiled by something the target says they want to do. And that, I think, in this instance, is to treat Russia as a working partner.
Well, deep state boys and girls — and Bill Kristol — who disgraces himself and his career with bathetic preference for totalism over republicanism — Russia as a USA working partner is going to happen — is happening — whether you want it to or not.
To not engage in war with Russia — a lunatic’s impulse — is the deepest of several reasons the electorate elevated DJT to his present responsibilities.
There is another matter. Before he came to Team Trump, Flynn’s consulting firm may have been lobbying stateside for Turkey and Erdogan, which means for the Moslem Brotherhood. If that is true — and I am unsure that it is — Providence has saved Team Trump from a truly nasty crash.

Conclusion: LTG Michael Flynn, U.S.A. Retired, is an American patriot — with the possible caveat that he does not grasp the connection between Turkey, the Moslem Brotherhood and Salafism, a fatal failing — who accepted a job for which he is professionally untrained and unsuited. He grasps the threat Islam is but, perhaps, not the threat its partisans are, specifically the Moslem Brotherhood and Salafism generally. Perhaps that assessment of mine is neither fair nor accurate. The system bends with the winds in the few places they blow then snaps right back into place. Where the winds get a fleeting advantage and synergy, e.g., Chicago, the system seals off the area and lets ’em to it.
Related: deep state, or any politics, trying to control the culture cannot work for the reason Breitbart stressed: politics is downstream from culture. The Big Ugly in MENA is coming between USG under Trump, Al Sisi-aligned Sunnis, Iraq, Russia (yes, Russia!) and India on one side and Turkey, Iran and Moslem Brotherhood (aka Salafi Jihad) on the other. Flynn was careless, he let himself be paid to advocate for the wrong side, not meaning to be wrong, just not careful, untutored regarding the grand canvas.
As DIA Director, he was very good, abrasive with staff, but pointing DIA in the right direction: serving the combatant commanders. He also called out CIA for crap going on there, and his firing was instigated by that pack of scoundrels, who had previously got Petraeus fired for essentially the same reasons: he told them to do their work and make it be for Americans, not foreigners. CIA didn’t like to do or hear that.
Flynn was never a line officer, which gives one necessary grand perspective, but he was a fine intel officer. Intel are not the people to be making strategic decisions. Were I to guess what happened, it would be that when he went civilian and wanted an income he scouted potential clients insufficiently, looking more at what they could pay than at who they really are and what he might pay for representing them.
In other words, I concur with Sundance on this.
Turkey is an ally in name only and then only with a USA Deep State — aka swamp — owned by the Moslem Brotherhood.
