Something is afoot in MENA, a new alignment is forming,
comprising Israel, Saud, Egypt and Jordan,
that I can see so far.
Not sure how it builds out,
but I think the Muslim Brotherhood and
Salafism in general are going to be overtaken by
a perfect storm,
even in Saud, where Salafism started.

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) can be quieted by fostering strong, non-sectarian (impartial) Iraqi national sovereignty.  Iraq is the geographical, moral, religious, military, agricultural, communications and political lynchpin of MENA peace and security.  A strong, independent, sovereign Iraq, untrammeled by clerical domination (aka Sharia Law), is the rock of MENA sanity.

Friendly nations should be helping to stand up the victorious Iraqi National Army.  This is being done and should be further fostered with all deliberate speed and intelligence.  The victorious Iraqi National Army (INA) is developing from the non-sectarian INA special operations forces at the spear tip of current successes against Salafist Jihadis (ISIL, AQ, Saudi finance, etc.) and Iranian hegemonic actors (IRGC, Quds, etc.).

POTUS and advisors did not grasp how right they were to have invaded Iraq in 2003.  Laurie Mylroie made that point in regard to their overlooking Saddam Hussein’s facilitation of both attacks on the World Trade Center and the attack on the Pentagon as well as the subsequent attack with weaponized anthrax, the follow-up punch to the attack of 11 September 2001.  It was also right to invade and occupy Iraq for the grand strategic reason of quieting MENA generally.  BassAckwards notwithstanding, that is happening and succeeding.  A nation comes up around her victorious armed forces.

Update 2: Concur. A strong-minded POTUS not only could handle Putin — in the sense of amusing (thus calming) him with intelligent strength — but would offer him alliance, with India, to quieten MENA and get on with checking the big threat facing all three of those brother nations.

Update 3: There’s also turning al Saud out of house and home and restoring the Hashemites to Mecca and Medina.  Not so hard to do.  Then, make the Ayatollahs an offer they can’t refuse.  That would settle things down.  And not even difficult.
