Countrymen,
I like this man. He fights.
How long it has been since qualificaiton for office was a concern. I think general popularity of Trump, Cruz and Fiorina indicates Americans want no more drama queens straddling their nation’s affairs. They want at the top people who can actually handle those affairs and discharge responsibilities they entrain in their nation’s interest, fairly, promptly and efficiently. A leader and organizer who attracts leaders and organizers who are loyal to their nation. That, I think, is the heart of surging enthusiasm for Trump, Cruz and Fiorina. One denies or deprecates that at one’s peril.
Carly Fiorina has taken herself out of consideration by equivocating Christianity, Judaism and Islam as comparable spiritual qualifications for POTUS. Her decline in popular esteem and poll numbers coincides exactly with her equivocating that matter on national TV.

Paul, in addition to Cruz qualities you remark, I’ll add two and call it case-closed for the man’s accession:
1- he is fluent in Spanish (which R. E. Lee wanted taught at then-Washington College, believing it the imminent second national language, in 1866);
2- his wife is beautiful and gracious and an alumna of Goldman Sachs.
Update 1: Two terminological clarities one hopes to hear from Trump and Cruz soon, hard, steady, indomitably and indefatigably:
1- Salafist Jihadis instead of Terrorists, Islamists, Islamic Fascists, etc
2- E Pluribus Unum as answer/rebuke to conjuring identity politics, multi-culturalism, deconstruction, justice, peace, equality, etc.
Update 2: Trump’s wives and offspring, all of them, are loyal to him. That tells me all I need to know. It tells me he is a man, indeed, a good man. Cruz’s family also is loyal to him so far as I can tell, and not just for ambition’s sake.
No one is ready to be POTUS. No one could be. So the electorate, men and women, discriminate between candidates on the basis of who they sense to be the most manly, and most of the time they will pick who seems (between “seems” and “is” the devil plays merry hell) the most manly because POTUS is a CIC and women, except for very rarely and then quite readably, are not constructed for combatant command.
A man is. A good man especially is. Trump and Cruz are qualified for POTUS. So is Sarah Palin, as a rare woman with proven combatant construction. Democrats’ only qualified candidate in view is Jim Webb.

I cannot agree. I prefer something like: this has been a long and lonely road since RR.
RR fought his day’s battles and mostly won them. He also did severe damage: S&L crisis, a warm-up for the 2008 liquidity crisis (also under a Republican admin, though GWB did warn about it, to stopped ears and shut eyes in Congress). And RR stupidly, ignorantly put US troops in harm’s way in the ME without answering mass murder of them. He didn’t see beyond The Soviet, but he got them right, and dead to rights.
Since RR — and even before and during — other monsters arose, snorting fire and smoke aplenty, domestically and overseas. Muslim Brotherhood was already embedded in RR’s White House (Grover Norquist, who remains there, along with MB operatives now deeply embedded in each Branch of the US Government).
Public morals and academic standards are violently ripped up since RR’s day, when already they were in shreds.
So, new or orders of magnitude greater threat vectors (to national sovereignty, solvency and supremacy), and overall and throughout, regnant, insolent, imperious and sanctimonious globalism of two distinct types temporarily allied. Even RR believed in World Citizenship transcending national loyalty.
This is not a fall. It is an array of developments. The difference is consequential. The fall, if you must, is The Fall: the passage from essential unity to existential alienation. What we face is simply the age-old responsibility to keep the heart and the home clean.
I’ll vote for any candidate who promises to walk the USA away from NATO and SACEUR. Strategically, there is the RR Soviet issue topping our day’s agenda. And, any candidate who promises to ally USA, Russia and India against first the Imams and second the ChiComs. Grand strategically, there is the fundamental transformation indicated by the totality of circumstances presently faced.
I favor smashing the rice bowl of anyone still conceiving affairs as governed by the diplomatic, financial and military tools created to win WWII and the Cold War (WWIII).

Update 7: Principal reason, now, that USA must exit NATO: Eurabia, led by what are now mistakenly called Germany and France.
Follow-on to NATO will be some structure with Russia and the Intermarium to keep Eurabia from heading east. Essentially, swing USA’s European force vector 180 degrees, from east to west.
That will be part of a larger structure, to include India, Mongolia and some Southeast Asian nations, to triangulate or quadrangulate China.
… unless arrogance like von der Leyen’s completely sours Trump on NATO.
May be a good chance of that happening. Germany has been on security welfare provided by USA for how long now? And she presumes to hector her benefactor. Head of NATO did as well last week.
No, NATO is obsolete. It is not 1947, nor yet 1991. von der Leyen is proving the point. I say, “You go, girl!”
