RAMANAM

Countrymen,

ORBIS NON SUFFICIT
SOLUS DEUS SUFFICIT

Without enforcement of the Pax Americana, the World becomes a very dangerous place for The United States and it’s peoples.
Bob Belvedere, The Camp Of The Saints

I commented:

Concur with an expansion, from Pax Americana to — pardon the neologism — Pax Laticana. The idea being, it is the Latinate nations — i.e., those formed by the Latin Church — who have an interest in authority based on the individual rather than the state and therefore a propensity to value, producing a responsibility to protect, intra-and inter-national freedom and safety. The Greek Church, in the Christian orbit, and the Mosque, in the Islamic, see authority based on the state and the clergy, respectively, not the individual, and therefore value overriding freedom and safety willy-nilly if determined to benefit the state or the clergy, respectively.

Freedom rests on the authority of the individual or is rests nowhere.

The Russian Church is Greek. Russia’s history is deeply Turanian. Think the yellow horde. Both of these formative factors see authority as the state and freedom as whatever the state wishes to allow.

Crimea is to Russia what Houston and Los Angeles are to the United States. Energy, commerce and defense necessities. It used to be Tatar, but Stalin moved them out and threw in Russians. An evil deed, it illustrates the depth importance of the area to Russia. Think “warm weather port” and today think that plus “energy pipelines.”

When Kiev Ukraine went unstable from Russia’s point of view, regardless of the actors driving the instability — and there are many, none too pretty — that put Crimea in jeporady as a Russian strategic vital. Her affairs there were under a treaty with Kiev Ukraine. So she moved in to put Crimea’s affairs under Russia herself. Cold and nasty, but looked at strategically, from Russia’s POV, utterly predictable and unstoppable. So, in you go. Who wants to live on rental property?  With a dodgy landlord?

The question is, what next? Were sane people who cared for their countries at the helm of USA and EU, firm mention — best with a demonstration of power, such as taking down an FSB team or two — would be made to Russia to stay back from the Baltics, Poland and Western Ukraine. Eastern Ukraine they can have if they want it but here is the line between that and Western Ukraine — roughly the former Lithuanian-Polish Commonwealth — and here are the forces ready to protect it. Because Putin lacks resources to restore Soviet boundaries and probably will to do it as well — it’s a headache and not necessary strategically so long as Crimea is in hand — a demonstration that it would not be a walk over if he tried would convince him to settle for what really matters, Crimea.

And then he and Ukraine and EU can get on with their rough-and-tumble over oil and gas and pipelines, etc. Normal inter-national fare.

Of course, sane and patriotic people are not at the helm in USA and EU. So we all grasp our lives in the palms of our hands. As Bob says, God help us. Indeed, He alone stands between us and the pitchforks — i.e., chaos.

Still, it is our Latinate base that gives us both strength and insight for how to deal with whatever comes at us, abiding the day when we can come at whatever is needful. Pax Laticana, majorly Pax Americana, is a fine flag to fly for. It is the flag of freedom based on authority in each individual.  Furthermore, it is our flag.  We made it, we fly it, we own it.

There is another civilization which sees each individual as the repository of authority: Vedic civilization. Sane helmsmen of Pax Laticana would make alliance there, with Pax Vedicana.

Update 1: On 27 January 2015, Marine GEN (Ret.) James N. Mattis addressed the United States Senate Armed Services Committee on the subject A New American Grand Strategy.  At Hoover Institution, who published an adapted version of General Mattis’ address, I commented — with edits here — as follows:

Not that it matters, but, I both appreciate and despond over General Mattis’ address here. Appreciate because (1) as a genuine warrior he says what he sees and eloquently and (2) his heart is unalloyed courage and compassion. Despond because (1) his address reflects lack of situational awareness — half his auditors at least regard the nation state, including USA, as obsolete and perishing — and (2) his address, although latterly specifying or implying serious tactical weaknesses of current operations, transits the periphery of his title: grand national strategy.

It is rare for a military leader to grasp and execute the several strands — principally diplomatic, economic and military, but others as well — of grand national strategy sufficiently to create a rational grand national strategic *goal* that is also inspirational. It is rare for anyone to be able to do that. General David Petraeus has that ability, which is why the Anti-American, Globalist-partisan US Justice [so-called] Department is persecuting/prosecuting him. Asking Congress or a bureaucracy to develop that ability and execute with it compares with asking a herd of cats to organize an expedition to summit Annapurna. Distilling and serving a happy grand national strategic *goal* is a personal, leadership thing few can do, but some definitely can and do accomplish. Their thoughts merit discovery and attendance.

The cynosure of a nation is not her grand national strategy. It is her grand national strategic *goal.* Given what we see now, project and anticipate — always expecting the unexpected, as General Mattis mentions, thankfully, in his address — where and what do we want to be as a nation three, five, ten, etc. years hence? What is our goal? What do we really, truly — as a nation — want for and of ourself to be, to do, to think? What is our inner necessity as a nation? What are we on this earth to accomplish as a national presence? And why do members of Congress not live in the states from which they were selected for office?

Related: On 04 March 2015  Marine GEN (Ret.) James N. Mattis wrote for Hoover Institution under title Using Military Force Against ISIS.  I commented:

I am content that GEN (Ret.) Mattis’ thinking, clear and compelling, be expressed in public.  Thank you, General!  Our countrymen are working their way towards how they will think and what they will do when they are quit of the hag riding their back.  And they will be that.  This exercise in preparation for the restoration of national sovereignty and wealth flowing from national moral and intellectual strength is what should be happening and what is happening.  I am content.
