Update 16JAN17
Something is afoot in MENA, a new alignment is forming,
comprising Israel, Saud, Egypt and Jordan,
that I can see so far.
Not sure how it builds out,
but I think the Muslim Brotherhood and
Salafism in general are going to be overtaken by
a perfect storm,
even in Saud, where Salafism started.

If Michael Ledeen is correct with this, even just in broad strokes, the Shiia/Sunni conflict in the Middle East is over in principle and Russia, Iran and China, allied together and with a Salafist Baghdad, are in stages of controlling the region’s oil and politics.  All of it.

Stalinist, not Fascist.

I suspect the Salafist Muslim Brotherhood connects Shiia, Sunnis and the ISIS movement with its Saddamist military and intelligence professionals.  And FSB, IRGC and PLA foster those connections.  The Ikhwan, I suspect, also links all of those force vectors with Turkey.  This pattern leaves Israel, Egypt, Jordan and, for the moment but probably not for long, Saudi Arabia outside the emerging grand arrangement of the Middle East.

First key mistake was George H. W. Bush’s: not finishing off Saddam Hussein and occupying Iraq for as long as it took to make her a productive nation.

Second key mistake George W. Bush’s: not putting USA on full war footing after 11SEP01 and occupying Iraq for as long as it took to make her a productive nation.

Third key mistake was Paul Bremmer’s: de-Saddam-izing the Iraqi military and NOT de-Sadr-izing the Iraqi Shiia.

Fourth key mistake was The Fraud’s: removing US fair-play principles and enforcement from Iraq and diddling with the consequences.

Now in consequence, an historically novel but not unforeseeable swarm of energy vectors is birthing a Middle East control pattern that sublimates old enmities and highlights geo-strategic opportunities — seemingly to them — for a joint Moscow, Salafist Baghdad, Tehran and Beijing arrangement.  But not for the USA, or Europe, or Africa, or Asia generally — and that not seemingly but actually.

As Trump says: stupid.  Absolutely unnecessary, utterly unforgivable and colossally stupid.

It is so terrible, it has to be an Act of God.  For what Americans are being punished, I do not know.  Materialism is my closest guess.  An entire region of the world gone under a mélange of Stalinist thumbs because of American materialism.

I think Russia is not acting in her actual interest in this, she is diddling for no genuinely sound strategic reason that benefits her.  She is merely seduced by her own delusions to diddle The Fraud’s diddling … and his/her predecessor’s fiddling.  None of the actors there is ten feet tall and omniscient.

In other words, the road to redeem this cock-up is to convince the Russians that their actual strategic interest is with the USA and India facing China and taking that dragon to school.

Update 2: Pope Francis’ Encyclical Is About More Than Climate Change

Update 3: The Saudi Connection: Wahhabism and Global Jihad, and related: Qatar.

Update 4: A leftie rag now wants American boots on the ground against ISIS.  They must feel the beheading knife getting too close.  They are right about that and will never admit that their general frame of reference made it so.

Update 5: Goodnight Vienna

Update 6: Michael J. Totten really does not get Iran, but this of his is worthy of the exercise of criticizing and useful for historical content none-the-less.

Update 11: A side-point on this post: is it really true that Iran is the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, aka global Islamic hegemony by every means available? This statement is repeated again and again, seemingly everywhere, by everyone. Is it true? I do not know, but I suspect it is not true, and have no way to validate my suspicion.

I suspect al Saud is the world’s largest state sponsor of global Islamic hegemony (Caliphism), at least if large is taken to indicate monies spent and time-in-grade.

For example, who pays for the Islamic Centers, Islamic propaganda/information circulars/curricula and Islamic Studies Departments at … how many primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities around the globe? Who pays for the Islamic “prison ministries” in virtually every country not officially Islamic? Who pays for the madrassas in Pakistan, Afghanistan and elsewhere? Who is trying to bankrupt some countries while funding others as well as supposedly non-state actors?

Who fills the world’s media with continuous cascades of sanctimonious double-talk to justify global Islamic hegemony?

If my suspicion regarding the world’s largest sponsor of “terrorism” is correct, then a one-eyed laser-focus on Iran as the primary enemy of the USA in the ME flouts Von Clausewitz’ first rule of war, does it not?

Finally — and of this I am certain: in the ME, it is deeply and widely held as fundamental truth that the State of Israel birthed ISIS — which in the ME is deeply and widely hated by the generality — to cripple Arab freedom, independence and self-determination.

Update 12: The Distributional Effects of U.S. Clean Energy Tax Credits [spoiler: helps rich, hurts poor]

Update 13: The American posture would be to ally with Russia in Syria, take out both Assad and ISIS, hold Iran at her border and beat her out of Iraq, help al-Abadi quiet and impartial-ize Iraq, invite India to join their alliance, tell other MENA governments to shut up and get out of the world’s face or else and then the three amigos, Russia, USA and India, pivot to face down humanity’s big and serious enemy; China.
