I think Progressives see prison, a gated community, as for the not-they, not they.  Progressives would be happy if everyone else lived in a prison or, better yet, was dead.  Actually, they would not be happy at all.  They could not resist the urge to change that particular gated community, indefinitely, always finding something wrong with their handiwork.  They cannot be happy without messing something up, someone up.  And they are not liberal.  Quite the opposite.  They are Stalinist.  But that is known.  Even they know it.
