US Generals and Admirals and their civilian bosses have been punching down — way down — for decades — and still not winning, even running away from winning, and lying about it! — so that now they are unprepared for war, real battle against a capable enemy. US Generals and Admirals cannot perform their duties of the day. Their minds and machines are inconsistent with the facts of modern battle.
An integrated, loosely-reined, high-morale force possessing an immensely capable King of Battle (stand-off, precision Artillery), a high mobility, cross-trained, and now experienced Queen of Battle (ISR-savvy Infantry), networked with a multi-domain [Penta-]Force and enjoying strong intellectual, industrial, financial, political, and popular support is a power US Generals and Admirals could not address without losses so immediate and enormous as to render them without effective formations to command and their morale frozen like Antartica in winter.
Using less dramatic language, the estimable COL Douglas Macgregor, U.S. Army, Retired, has been making noises such as the foregoing since 2011 and 2012:

Solutions are available and painful to many. Such as must, just have to endure that pain. Huge forces are in motion among the nations, towards exuberance and humanity and away from prominence and privilege. Great powers are not going to battle with great powers unless they are suicidal. If they do, they will have the fate they deserve: other nations gang up on them and annihilate their inordinate appetites.
Armed Forces now, including those of the great powers — USA, Russia, India, China — are national-border protectors in the largest sense of that mission. COCOMs for overseas missions may be maintained as HQ organizations only, for “what if” overseas contingencies, as loci of learning and anticipation. Otherwise, US pulls her military forces out of other nations, turning bases back to local governments or selling them to local private persons or entities.
US BCTs, DIVs, AFs, and Fleets should be positioned on the homeland and trained as QRF to annihilate threatened border incursions by overseas powers or criminal organizations, incursions of any kind, to include cyber, EW, and ideational.
US Armed Forces should be assigned full-spectrum authority-to-annihilate over any foreign-based activity that subverts Americans’ sovereign spiritual freedom before or after transiting US borders.
The days of American forces going overseas to rearrange the internal and external affairs of other nations are over. That activity, as long agitated with indefatigable diligence by Ashkenazy Jewish atheists and Vatican swindlers — clergy, Neolib-Neocon lawyers and merchants, Euro-American Fascists, the junction box of today’s D-R UniParty — is fascist and imperialist, hateful to Americans. Americans are not that sort of people. US cannot afford to diminish her own sovereignty by funding CIA, USAID, AIPAC, Brookings, and AEI. Secretary of State John Quincy Adams declared this truth in 1821: ‘She Goes Not Abroad In Search Of Monsters To Destroy’.
Pentagon personnel and their service brethren must redesign US Armed Force as an integrated, net-centric combined force reflecting the absence of CIA-USAID (abolished by Congress) and their mission to create chaos among nations, chaos venal US clergy, politicians and other lawyers, industrialists, and merchants exploit for name and fame.
One might wish it otherwise, but the truth is that, in broad aspect at least, in this matter of modern military redesign, Russia Leads The Way. While the U.S. Army — her army leads a nation’s military capacity — consciously patterns on their own as well as Greek, Roman, Arabic, and German models, now they must add as well the modern Russian model to their mix of experience-proven structures and doctrines.
- The Russian model, be it noted, includes a usage Americans too found beneficial through the centuries: military formations based on race or ethnicity. One recalls, for example, Scots-Irish, Buffalo Soldiers, Tuskegee Airmen, and the incomparable 442nd RCT. Modernly, American SOF formations comprise mostly Soldiers with Scottish, Scandinavian, or Frankish surnames. Integration at the division level and above is fair and indicated. Below division level, racial or ethnic homogeneity per unit would foster cohesion and morale, which foster combat effectiveness.
