His Will Be Done!

RAMANAM
In the Name of The Father, and of The Son and of The Holy Spirit, Amen.

Countrymen,

Responding to this essay by the great Christopher Hitchens:

This article states the truth. I think, however, that the time for discussion, for rational conversation, is over and that the subject, in whole, has been submitted to the judgment of war, trusting in Providence to establish the truth. Continuously stating the truth is important now, as always, and all through the battle. However, hope that stating the truth may shed light is forlorn. The only light now will come from the flash of guns and the clash of metals/mettles, symbolically and literally.

Our nation, led by this administration, has not taken this war seriously. Our record is that we hardly ever take a war seriously, even though we are at war most of the time. Certainly, our nation has been at war every year of my earthly career, but rarely seriously and then for only brief periods ended by recriminations over loss of the war by one party or another, one turpitude or another.

However, it needs stating that every war waged by our nation during my career it has been correct and justified for our nation to wage. We have been where we should have been, but, being there, we have not been serious about finishing the job once started. In each such situation where I have carried adult responsibility, I have supported the war as the right thing to do and not supported a tepid pursuit of it. Thankfully, our nation has succeeded each time it went to war, but often at far more cost than might have been possible had we been entirely serious … and united. We may not become entirely serious about our wars, but we are scorchers when aroused, nonetheless!

There are philosophical reasons we have not taken this particular war seriously, but more comprehensively, the nation habitually does not take its near-constant warfare seriously, not at all, seemingly on principle — as if there is such a principle! — regardless of the philosophical considerations attending a particular war.

It can be argued, as it is argued, that this particular war addresses the greatest danger to our national identity and nationhood that we have faced since Independence. I share that estimate.

However, not even that argument is going to break through our leaders’ inherent laziness and numbness, in all dimensions, especially the intellectual/spiritual dimension, which governs the others. That I put to drugs immediately, although there are ontological sources of entropy as well, derived from man’s existential estrangement from his essential nature, including specifically anti-Christian and anti-American estrangements. So the only cure now is battle here, between our factions and as facilitated, enthusiastically, by foreign agencies.

Let us keep stating the truth about the seriousness of this war and the necessity for fighting it resolutely to consummation, which must be victory. Let us not hope that our witness will open minds or burnish intellects or guide policy. Let us, rather, be content with doing our duty as we have light to see that duty, trusting the outcomes, the consequences, to God.

Wars occur between nations. Crimes occur within a nation. A trait of war for the last 100 years and probably forever is that it involves the whole nation, every citizen. Another trait of war is that only the dead see the end of it. Another is that it settles the issue at stake. Another is that, because of man’s existential estrangement from himself and his world, the occasions of war are endless, as the occasions of crime are intra-nationally. And a trait of asymmetrical war, such as this one, is that what appears as crime, within a nation, is really war, between nations.  There are no stateless belligerents.  Every (!) belligerent is supported by a nation state.

We have benefited from a period of seriousness regarding a national sovereignty-threatening war. Nor have this President or his intellectual and political supporters concluded either their agenda or their resolve. But more importantly, neither has God concluded His. The United States of America is Arjuna on the world stage today. Russia is Bhima and India is Dharmaraja. God will not allow our nation to disintegrate through anti-Christian hatred or abjure her duty through anti-American jealousy. His will be done!

Update 1: One party rule in Great Britain, also.  And also being challenged.
