Instead of the term terrorists, I tend to prefer the term thugs.  Better still, Caliphists.  Our Army also has been using the second characterization.

Case in point: Our son, in Iraq as an independent contractor, says the evil bastards — a common on-site term — have used up the religious fanatics — a contradiction in terms — for suicide bomb planners and are now simply abducting whole families and telling the fathers that they do a suicide bomb run or their wife and children, at least, among their relatives, are executed.  Sweethearts, winning the war for hearts and minds.

This explains reports of hands taped to steering wheels and car bombs remotely detonated.  Japanese Kamikaze pilots during WWII often were chained to their rudder controls and shadowed by a non-Kamakaze pilot whose job was to shoot them down if they did not execute their mission.
