RAMANAM
In the Name of The Father, and of The Son and of The Holy Spirit, Amen.
Countrymen,
ORBIS NON SUFFICIT
SOLUS DEUS SUFFICIT
Usable WMDs were in the hands of Saddam Hussein before, just before and after 11SEP01, lots of them, and many remain in Iraq.
The intelligence estimates of Western nations have been uniformly accurate regarding this fact and no member of the Legislative or Executive (Clinton or G. W. Bush) Branches of the United States Government has doubted it. None could because it was and is a fact.
For several reasons, all arising after American troops reconnoitered the situation on the ground in Iraq, neither the White House, the Congress, the Defense Department, the State Department, the CIA or the FBI wants to talk about WMDs under Saddam Hussein’s control before 11SEP01 or in Iraq since that date.
The problem regarding the chemical and biological material in Iraq is two-fold. First, there is so much of it that the only safe, rapid and cost-effective way to dispose of it is to catastrophically ignite it. Second, there is so much of it, it is so widely dispersed, and so much of it is in deteriorating containers that simply guarding it, and safely, from the hands of enemies and the curious is a personnel and logistical nightmare. WMDs are truly as much a threat to their owner as they are to any possible victim.
For this reason, the Administration and Congress recently updated policy regarding the use of nuclear devices to include safe elimination of large stockpiles of WMDs. There is no other way to get rid of the stuff safely in the Iraqi context than by this method.
Now, partisans attached to the Democratic Party, encouraged by hostile foreign agencies and journalists, whose affections and intellects form in taverns, are taking advantage of this silence, self-imposed from considerations of national security.
[Note on 10MAR14: Or, more likely, since Rove finally fessed up about it, from a gravely mistaken calculation of political self-interest that deeply harmed the nation.]
They are accusing President Bush of lying, or, what is the same thing, dissembling and quibbling regarding WMDs in the hands of Saddam Hussein during the run-up to the invasion of Iraq by Coalition Forces in March 2003.
The Congressional element and many in the journalist element of these partisans agreed with President Bush’s estimate of WMDs in the hands of Saddam Hussein during the run-up to the invasion of Iraq by Coalition Forces in March 2003. And all of these are aware today and were aware all along that his estimate in this regard was accurate.
The action of these partisans therefore, accusing President Bush of lying, is wicked. In fact, the enormity of their behavior in this instance cannot be gauged because their intention is absurd.
During my career, four comparable enormities have occurred in my field of vision, all at the highest levels of statecraft with connivance by journalists:
1- The sequestering by successive Branches — all three — of the United States Government from national consciousness of the fact that the Cold War was a war. For example, The Cuban Missile Crisis was no crisis. It was opposing operations in a war. Only Presidents Truman and Reagan treated the Cold War for what it was, he who started it and he who concluded it, in victory.
2- The sequestering by the Warren Commission of the actors and the context of the assassination of President Kennedy. The trail led to Premier Khrushchev and if that were known, it was decided, hotter conflict would ensue. Of course, hotter conflict did ensue, as Khrushchev foretold that it would, as a turning movement directed at the Southeastern Defensive Littoral of the United States, namely, the coast and interior of Indochina.
3- The sequestering of the meaning, the strategic importance of American military operations in Indochina between 1963 and 1973 and consequent inadequate support of its requirements. Three Administrations and more Congresses, plus a host of journalists, engaged in this enormity.
4- The sequestering by a Vatican cabal, supported by almost every journalist in the world, of the cause and reason for the death of Pope John Paul I. He was murdered and details still are too hidden even to be surmised. The only certainty is that its beneficiary, Pope John Paul II, belonged to the cabal.
One asks, why do such horrible things happen, why do men and women do such horrible things?
History records no soothing answer to these questions. It gives no answer at all. Its response is a rhetorical question: “Where were you when I formed the earth?”

Update 3: ” … far from having any insight into world affairs, he’s a slave to conventional wisdom.”
Let’s say he is, what insights SHOULD he have, that do not conform to conventional wisdom (which usually goes unwise after its moments of applicability)? What would you, Paul, do right now in, say, MENA were you Oval Office Occupant?
Which of us should check clean for honesty? Self-evident answer. So, that’s a relative, not an absolute, measure of fitness for office. Useful but not determinative.
What should be done? Can you develop answers to that question in lieu of nipping at heels?
In 2002-3 there was but one official national voice warning about insufficiencies in the coming invasion: CSA Eric Shinseki, who argued for 600K invasion and *occupation* force. He was right. Not a few lesser lights feared another half-measures invasion and outcome. Even the surge, proving Shinseki’s urgings, was half-measures politically made successful, tenuously, by the skill of certain leadership serendipitously in the AO simultaneously.
The quote to Stern has Trump less than enthusiastic for fear of more half-measures (as in Desert Storm). In the event, his anticipation was accurate. OIF succeeded just barely and without sustainability, and the reason for that was the political decision, by the White House, to not take the whole country to war. They — White House and their commercial backers — wanted a politically cheap war. They got the opposite.
So, Paul, what would you do today in, say, MENA? What’s it look like outside the arm-chair?
Update 4: This is evergreen: YEP: After boasting for three years that he “ended” the Iraq War, [The Fraud] says it was Bush’s fault.
Update 5: There were WMDs in Iraq. This writer give a dodgy explanation for why GWB did not counter the lie that there were none: George W Bush accepted the lies and criticisms against him because he felt it might be harmful to the morale of our troops and could hurt our intelligence community if the details got out.
