Senator Cotton is pulling punches or being stupid. Street thugs are not the problem. Politicians and other community organizers are. Arrest the mayors, governors, and city councils. Defund the school boards. The situation is military and Cotton knows that. And he knows that military force hits supply lines, not front lines. He is not helping with his focus on street thugs.
It is part of spy craft and espionage to use McNamara’s Fallacy to distract Americans, especially them, with the narrow band of reality visible to metrics, quantifiables, leaving one free to operate in the vast reality of non-quantifiables free of scrutiny and supervision.
Anyone crediting a phrase such as studies show that should be presumed to be operating under the aegis of McNamara’s Fallacy, wittingly or unwittingly.
The most consequential realities are not quantifiable. No metric reaches them. Every intel agency of every nation spends their time mastering opportunities presented by this truth. Political Science taught as metrics and AI operated as metrics are tools, not wills or even decisions.

Thanks, I contemplate publishing it on my less-than-fly-speck blog in context of what passes for expert conceptuality in the so-called US Foreign Policy Establishment these past several decades. The very concept of establishing authority by pronouncement of experts is, of course, a classical fallacy.
Well, they do sail before the wind, t'gallants set, at a lee shore.
Look at it from their POV. Attacking it to extirpate an obsolete social construct (i.e., USA nation state) is peaceful progress, merely hard but necessary work to establish world peace. No more violent than dusting surfaces in one’s home or washing one’s body, clothes, or dishes with a surfactant.
Their stochastic structure derives from their decades-long slogan Visualize World Peace. Removing obstacles to their vision’s establishment is merely ordinary activity, neither violent nor unpeaceful. And it is fun, a real chick magnet on the one hand and warlock magnet (muscle, as the Mizzou PR P famously yelled for years ago) on the other.
They are anything but circumspect regarding their vision’s lineaments: metroplex regional semi-sovereignties (superseding counties, states, and nations) inside a rules-based global order established and ruled by experts — education, military, political, and industrial oligarchs resident at the Ivies, their overseas counterparts, and their graduates’ clouds of NGOs — with a view to 80% human population die off.

So no, there is no violence in Portland, etc., merely clean out and that mostly peaceful. To themselves they are speaking the truth from the frame of reference informing their thoughts, words, and actions.
Their frame of reference is the bad actor. In days of yore this phenomenon was spoken of as demon-possession, the reason being, the mind drives the body and, while the body’s actions are tangible, the mind’s are not. Hidden forces in the mind, therefore, are considered, and rightly, more consequential and potentially dangerous than visible forces in the body or the mind. The effort to reduce the mind to quantifiable electro-chemical activity does nothing to reduce the invisibility of the mind’s primary motivators. Those motivators reside in the dimension of spirit, in which power and meaning unite as health or separate as dis-ease.
Perhaps *overlook* the country they aspire to rule is more accurate than saying they hate it. They find patriots pathetic, clinging to the old fashioned idea of a nation, along with guns and religion. They Visualize World Peace ruled by them (actually their oligarch bosses) through the rules-based global order they imagine. Nations merely stand in the way of their vision’s concretization. And of course an 80% die off of human population is mandated by the rules, which are based on science interpreted by experts. Brookings Institution, Rockefeller foundations, and Rand Corporation have been on about this for decades, and hardly alone.
These minions attacking federal buildings are merely announcing the obsolescence of federal (national), state, and county authority. Authority now is in semi-sovereign geographic regions centered on cities and all under the one rules-based global order (global governance) run by experts (at the behest of education, military, political, and industrial oligarchs, the true power holders). Mayors have more power than governors do in this visualized system because states and counties also are obsolete — because they are constituent authorities of obsolete nations.
And the FBI is MIA, even complicit, in all of this sedition and treason. IMO, just as every last policy that has been brutalizing Americans for generations originated on the banks of the Charles River, every last shred of evidence as to what has been going on points to the FBI as chief and eager instrument for education, military, political, and industrial oligarchs’ reign of terror in furtherance of their vision of world peace through global governance.
