Regarding a conflict at Emery University law school, Glenn Reynolds writes: The biggest reason for our current reign of woke terror is that administrators are spineless and bow to the mob at the least sign of trouble.
This relates to my topic yesterday: The God Of History And The Gods Of Space. The dean at Emory law worships gods of space.
I commented on Glenn’s post:
Glenn, I take your point and will offer what I think is a bigger reason: they do not look like students. They do not dress like students. They do not walk like students. They do not talk like students. Why should they be expected to act like students?
They look, dress, walk, and talk like slobs. That, I think, is the biggest reason for the reign of woke terror, which I can trace in personal observation back to Mario Savio and continue through the SDS guys, whom the CIA (Old Left) set up as a backfire against kid commies (New Left), and then the backfire got loose: they looked and sounded like slobs, not students, so they behaved like slobs, not students.
A person gets only one shot in life at learning, at being supported for the purpose of becoming educated: having skilled hands, a hard mind, and a soft heart. Why waste that lone chance on looking like a slob?
This also is why some rich parents feel the need to fake their offsprings’ worthiness for support during adult education, i.e., college and post-grad. They have not raised students, they have not insisted their offspring look and sound like students, so, they feel obliged, from deserved guilt, to fake their offspring’s way ahead for them. A pity.
That said offspring would accept parental fakery on their behalf says said offspring may never grow up. That on behalf of a college an admissions officer would countenance fakery of this or any type says that officer and that college probably are jejune, sterile even, neither dispensing nor protecting learning, not worth attending.
