RAMANAM
In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.
Countrymen,
ORBIS NON SUFFICIT
SOLUS DEUS SUFFICIT
The authority one has is directly proportional to the power one has. The power one has is directly proportional to the purity of one’s heart. And the purity of one’s heart is directly proportional to the amount of love God, as if a flautist, can push through one’s heart to other creatures.
Not purity of doctrine.
Not purity of principles.
Not purity of history.
Not purity of essence.
Purity of heart.
At Power Line Blog two days ago, John Hinderaker wrote under title, How Dumb Is Ocasio-Cortez? As of this writing, commenters on that of his are numerous and comments number almost six hundred and counting, a standout. Much comment circles the question, is Ocasio-Cortez stupid (dumb) or ignorant (ill-informed), or both?
This question was asked repeatedly of actors in the last administration, the one headed by The Fraud. It had no diffusing effect on The Fraud’s trajectory, so, one must observe that it was the wrong question. Remarking The Fraud as evil had some diffusing effect on his trajectory. But the most effect attack against The Fraud’s trajectory was observing that he is deceitful (a liar) and enjoys the destruction of others (a dictator) in consequence of his minions’ implementing his plans for those others’ (clingers) destiny (elimination).
My offerings to the gathering at Hinderaker’s were unusually numerous and I think illuminating. They follow.
David Skurnick
Maybe she’s smart enough to know that most voters won’t understand her mistake, and the media won’t point it out.
David R. Graham to David Skurnick
She is that smart, as are her America-hating brain trust.
David R. Graham
Stupid or not, she is making a rhetorical point upon which Tucker sincerely dwelt earlier this month: big corps and politicians do not care about Americans, only profits, money, markets (and then sex and drugs). Regardless of the tyrannical intent behind her rhetoric, she is pitching to POTUS Trump’s base and likely knows that she is, though cynically, as well as to her own socialist ignoramus/thug base.
She is, in effect, quoting American (Christian) Scripture to tyrannical effect, just as Woodrow Wilson and so many other Ds and Rs have done, with the exception of POTUS Trump, who is honest, actually means it, because he is non-tyrannical though decisive in the moment of need. As is observed, The Devil quotes Scripture, seducing many, I would guess to include in this case not a few Republican females.
Ergo, I suggest attacking Maduro-Cortez as envious, ambitious, and deceitful rather than as stupid, petulant, and ignorant. Obama was attacked as the latter and survived it. Maduro-Cortez does not deserve to enjoy the same losing tactic in her front. Flanks, flanks, supply lines, in this case spiritual supply lines, her actual motivators: envy, ambition, and plain amusement at the undoing of others.
Gilbert to David R. Graham
She is, in effect, quoting American (Christian) Scripture to tyrannical effect… What do you mean by this
David R. Graham to Gilbert
Inalienable personal freedom justly (in God) requiring inalienable national people-hood and sovereignty. Those are Christian fundamenta embedded in American character, hagiography, and jurisprudence.
John Maier to David R. Graham
Her rhetorical point just cost a lot of people future livelihoods
David R. Graham to John Maier
Of one kind but not of others. And in any case, it is tyrannical politicians and governments, not livelihoods, that are at trial here. A made man might observe that her price, continuing, was more than Bezos wanted to pay her, continuing.
John Maier to David R. Graham
No, the case here is AOC aspiring to relevance, It could have been anything at hand this was just convenient. (she hits on everything)
People’s livelihoods are the cost of Sandy’s ambition, jobs coming as opposed to no new jobs at all.
Politicians = government = AOC, already she is the same old tired shop worn troup. trial forsooth!
You might say in a tyrannical way, Sandy has imposed her will on the people–for there own good of course
David R. Graham to John Maier
Of course, your observation is accurate. But the people she harms are still sovereign souls with inalienable freedom and responsibility to deploy that freedom for their welfare and the welfare of their spouse and children if they have them.
Even Eden is not a socialist welfare state. It has a rule. And the tangible world, fallen/expelled from Eden for breaking that rule, has a plethora of rules, among which is work or don’t eat.
Heraclitus put it this way: War [Struggle] is the father of all things. You gotta struggle, boys, sorry, but that’s the skinny of it and they ain’t no other. Don’t matter no how what anyone else does, you got that one all to youself.
David ulrich
This AOC character is the perfect example of how we as a society are failing our children educationally and culturally. High Schoolers shouldn’t be this ignorant about economics and the tax system let alone graduates of Boston University with degrees in economics. How can anyone even debate or negotiate with someone this ill informed? Seriously. It’s like trying to explain that money doesn’t grow on trees to someone who doesn’t know what trees are.
D4x to David ulrich
AOC is walking her own plank.
Mayor deBlasio just joined her on that plank, surprised at Amazon’s sudden announcement, because deB thought he was still negotiating: We want to see jobs for public housing residents, we want to see unionized employees.
It’s why there are no Wal-Marts in NYC. Might be the most unionized city in USA. The irony is that many drive to NJ, just to shop at Wal-Mart. In the outer boroughs, many have cars.
AOC grew up in leafy, rich, Westchester County, for the schools.
David R. Graham to David ulrich
With respect, ignorance and stupidity are very different things, not the same. Check the etymologies.
David ulrich to David R. Graham
I think I was quite clear that she is both ill informed because of a broken educational system and a blithering idiot for not being able to understand that where there is no business, there is no money to be taxed. There isn’t a NYC government money bin somewhere waiting to benefit some environmentally friendly mom and pop shop. So to clarify, AOC is both ignorant because she has been failed by the educational system which gave her a degree in economics, and she is dumb as a rock for thinking that jobs and money are the government’s to provide out of thin air.
Gilbert to David R. Graham
But she seems to be both ignorant and stupid, so what’s your point?
John Maier to Gilbert
Neither, just opportunistic, it could have been any issue that she held forth on. I am sure she could really care less, (not possible) this is about self aggrandizement, nothing more, no deep thoughts.
David R. Graham to Gilbert
That the post author writes about stupidity, the commenter writes about ignorance, and these, materially and consequentially, are not the same thing.
Before you go to war, as the great German said, know your enemy, and that means as precisely as possible because only then can you see his actual vulnerabilities, which are your primary points of attack, and disregard his feints and other propaganda, aka IO warfare.
Semantic precision is essential to victory in the struggles of life. I should imagine a successful litigator could make a parallel observation from their career experience.
Gilbert to David R. Graham
Ok, but JH’s article mentions both her ignorance and her stupidity:
Earlier this week, Omar exhibited stunning ignorance in her hostile questioning of Elliott Adams Abrams…
and
This is where Ocasio-Cortez went off the rails and took a deep dive into stupidity:
So, since JH writes about both, I’m not sure why you’re making the distinction between the two.
David R. Graham to Gilbert
Because there is a distinction, a germane distinction, it needs observing, which JH elides, and, as I suggested, neither one is a fruitful line of attack against socialists, in this case Maduro-Cortez.
One could argue effectively that Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot were stupid and ignorant. And confronting the question is a useful if not mandatory exercise.
Because, followed through conscientiously, without attenuation, said exercise conceived in military terms, which is what this business with socialists is, IMO will produce the result that neither stupid nor ignorant gets to the enormity of the socialist posture whereas envy, ambition, and deceit do.
Don Weber to Gilbert
Well, she was smart enough to get elected and to somehow become a leading voice of the Dems with lightning quick speed. Yes, being a minority and luck, and (evidently) charisma, has something to do with it, but still impressive for a 29 year old. That being said, if she’s this ignorant and obstinate, I see her flaming out.
David R. Graham to Don Weber
FWIW, I would guess the obstinate part is what would do it.
John Shepherd to Don Weber
She really isn’t a minority. She is Spanish surnamed as in Spain
Don Weber to John Shepherd
Of Puerto Rican descent is being a minority
Dave Begley
Let this woman keep talking. She doesn’t know any better and it helps us.
David R. Graham to Dave Begley
That depends on a (at least) large presumption.
greatj
Ocasio is emotionally and mentally disturbed
David R. Graham to greatj
And water is wet.

Update 1: Sarah Hoyt: The One Wrong Premise at the Center of American Politics Today
Update 2: A freshman representative from another district frustrates a mayor, a governor, and an oligarch … and lives to crow over it? In no real world does that happen. Something else is going on here. Maybe the stupid are those believing the public reports.
mikeman
Apparently bad chemistry between politicians Michael Gianaris and Cuomo/DeBlasio stopped the deal more than the loudmouth AOC.
Or maybe Amazon just wised up? Electricity rates are increasing all over NY. NYC is about to lose more jobs as it switches from natural gas and nuclear to green energy.
Cuomo has wasted millions subsidizing gambling, solar panels, factories etc. Why anyone or any business would choose NY defies logic. NY, like Kalifornia is going down the tubes. You can thank democrats.
David R. Graham to mikeman
This sounds much closer to the truth than AOC stopped Amazon. Non-agreement on long-term palm-greasing, alluded to in Amazon’s statement, seems to me most likely at the center of it. Not a freshman representative from another district. Politicos, who always hold the upper hand, thought they could extort from Bezos more than he was willing to give, is my guess. Differences in Easterner/Westerner mental postures and therefore manners and strategies in doing business also are involved, I expect.
David R. Graham
If she is a Cortez, when she reaches her objective she will burn her ships, consolidate her gains, and strike out for further conquest (run train), drawn forward by natives’ desire, one in particular, to consume her paler-skinned body. But are any natives here desiring that?
Update 3: She marks civilization’s fundament: agriculture. We live from six inches of top soil. Period.
She does not know how to proceed from that fact, at least not yet, and she approaches the subject from the ideology of identity politics, but she sees the fundament and deserves credit for that, even if she wills to misuse it.
She is, after all, up from the plantain Puerto Rican. Hitler saw the need for German military restoration as fundament of antidote to Allied rapacity at Versailles. AOC sees local agricultural puissance as fundament of antidote to crony capitalist cash crop farming. Give the monsters credit for what they got/get right.
Give her time, she will only become more formidable in this and other regards.
As to what she and her cohort want really to institute, ponder the career of Ks. Jerzy Popiełuszko.
