Countrymen,

ORBIS NON SUFFICIT
SOLUS DEUS SUFFICIT

Saint (in his own mind) James Comey has published a book titled A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership.  I have not read the book and I will not read it.  It’s purport is in its title with all the clarity of an angry wasp.

Martyred Saints Thomas More and Thomas à Becket have, in Saint James Comey’s mind — which continues to walk and talk, incidentally — a worthy successor: Saint James Comey.

In fact, there is, among English Churchmen, a worthy precursor to Saint James Comey, and of higher rank than mere Councillor or Archbishop.  A very Cardinal, in fact, and another Thomas: Wolsey.

In the context of his mind and outlook on life and the world, Saint James Comey’s metaphor is apt, however.  It expresses an elevation in the conduct and management of affairs to which he and his cohort of officials heartily subscribe themselves.  The metaphor places Saint James Comey as [ex-]Archbishop of, effectively, an ecclesial jurisdiction reporting to Cardinal Lynch, who reports to Pope Obama Rex and his intended successor, Pip Hillaria Primus.

The authorities and powers of church and state reside in St. James Comey and his cohort of officials, higher and lower.

Further, the metaphor posits that an illegitimate personality, conjuring a barbarous horde, broke across the customary lines of, effectively, ecclesial command and control, acting as a foreign force, seizing levers of civil and religious power which belong not to it and would be kept far from it in ordinary times.

Drawing out the metaphor yet further, we note it identifies the United States Government (USG) as the Church — or better, the Church as the United States Government (USG) — and implies that its authorities and powers are plenary and perpetual, bound to a higher loyalty: God/Truth.

St. James Comey does his countrymen the service of requiring them to answer the question, How did we come to the point where Americans serving their countrymen think of themselves as inheritors of unimpeachable responsibility, bearing commensurate authorities and powers, to command and control their countrymen from elevated positions which are divinely inspired, established and ordained?

How did the Church become the USG?  No wonder St. James Comey and his cohort of officials regard the Constitution of the United States of America as so much straw for the fires of shooting.

Well, starting early in the 20th Century, Churchmen demanded it and kept demanding it, right up until the early 1960s — say, 1964 — when the two authorities — civil and religious — snapped together as in a polymerization … and then came under immediate attack from outside, from citizens disapproving the union of two systemically different but equally necessary orders of authority: church and state.

The attack came from the youth, facilitated by leftists, foreign and domestic, but still a legitimate and soul-fed cry against the union of civil and religious authorities.  The Establishment we called it, a recrudescence of mankind’s most fearful and hated tyranny: putting penal authority in the hands of clergy.  At root, the 60s revolution was as American as apple pie and patriotic parades.

The union of civil with religious authorities is mankind’s most deadly and destructive bane.  Usually clerics, to include professors, rather than politicians or bureaucrats, commence the agitation for that union, as was the case in the USA early last century and continuing.

Responding gradually but steadily to the importunities of Churchmen, starting early in the 20th Century, elected and appointed citizen servants saw opportunities for domain enlargement, vote getting, graft and moral preening, which is fungible for power hoarding.  They had the cover, supposedly, of divine sanction, aka clerical prestige.

Step by step politicians and bureaucrats accepted the churchmen’s nagging entreaties, taking over roles such as charity for the poor, counseling for mothers, fathers and children, care of the sick, care of the elderly, regulation of daily life, promotion of intellectual, scientific, agricultural and social expansions that are fresh and necessary, promotion of plastic and musical arts, regulation of finance and commerce, etc.

We blame professors, politicians and bureaucrats for the explosion of collectivist (Communist) claptrap that progressively hobbles and befuddles USA citizens and affairs since the early 20th Century, but professors, politicians and bureaucrats are dupes, mere swindlers.  The culprits are the makers of the swindle.  That is the Churchmen.  They agitated for a union of civil with religious authorities, thinking — you can be sure of it — themselves to control and benefit most from that union’s realization.  Politicians did not do that, they would not dare to do that, knowing, rightly, that they would be opposed successfully if they tried doing that on their own authority.

Churchmen had no such pause.  Does not everyone look to them for guidance because they are closer to God than anyone else?  Churchmen expected to be principle beneficiaries of a union of civil and religious authorities, thinking civil authority would be joined to their religious authority rather than that their religious authority would be joined to politicians’ civil authority.

Americans would never give religious authority to politicians, but they would and have given civil authority to clergy.  Relative to total civil spending, it is a crumb rather than the meal clergy expected, but it is a material crumb, called Faith-Based Community funding.  In the annual billions.  Still, Christian clergy lost most of their bet to control combined religious and civil authorities.  They are in fact held in derision, and rightly so, by those whose authority they essayed to mix with their own.

However, professors, politicians and bureaucrats quickly discovered to mantle themselves with the trappings of ecclesial authority, thus being accounted worthy and elect, like clergy are.  Finery, personal polish, deference, freedom from scrutiny, freedom from health-care trauma, supplicants throwing themselves, money and beautiful  bodies at their feet, sudden huge retirement wealth — all at taxpayer or mark’s expense — convinced professors, politicians and bureaucrats that this combined civil-religious authority gig is really sweet.  And so it is, until the taxpayer or mark gets a nose-full of it.

And Americans are doing it again, except now they are giving Salafist/Shiite clergy civil authority, not just Christian clergy.  And without those clergy even having to importune on their own behalf.  Merely another Faith-Based Community funding item is how that direct attack on USA sovereignty is seen and supported — with taxpayer money.  Americans are funding their own extinction.  Salafist/Shiite clergy come already convinced they are sole civil authority so they need not beg politicians to unionize the two authorities.  Salafism/Shiism does that at its root, its abyssal facticity, all on its own.

Now, a union of civil and religious authorities is, as mentioned before, the most toxic condition known to man.  It is intolerable.  Saint James Comey believes it is providential and that he is its beneficence.  So there is the fight and over a very ancient line of battle, once again.  Actually, Saint James Comey is barking.

King Henry VIII famously confiscated the wealth — to include the lands — of monasteries throughout England.  Also famously, he united civil and religious authorities in his person.  A lot of hoopla all around those two actions of Henry’s has occurred, much thoughtful, much ideological.

As is my wont, I commend a study of the phenomenology of those two actions of Henry’s.

Over the centuries, pious personalities, rich and poor, bequeathed English Catholic monasteries endowments in coin, handiwork and land.  Often bequests were to subsidize perpetual prayers and/or masses said on behalf of the soul of a loved one who had passed away, to shorten their experience in purgatory or simply to memorialize them beyond the time the bequeather could no longer.

By Henry’s time, monasteries controlled throughout England decisive sums of land and, of course, the assets produced therefrom.  The monasteries rather than the civil government (Henry) controlled England’s finances and communications.  Effectively, the monasteries had accreted or seized to themselves civil as well as religious authority.  For some, their religious authority ran through their local Bishop to the Pope in Rome.  For others, their religious authority ran directly to the Pope in Rome.  Effectively, the Pope in Rome had accreted or seized to himself civil and religious authority in England as well as across zones of Europe.

Henry was hemmed in, mewed up in the most basic sense: ability to move across and tax his domain.

Predictably, he struck to undo the stitching.  And he succeeded.  But he replaced it with another union of civil and religious authorities, another stitch-up: himself.  So England was not actually better off from the breakup of the monasteries’ monopoly on the economy and countryside.

Over following years Parliament, Churchmen and Monarch tested their relative strengths against one another.  Monarchs’ strength gradually retreated and Parliament’s gradually advanced.  However, at law, and to this day, the British monarch is head of the Church of England (CofE).  So Henry’s union of civil with religious authorities persists in Great Britain, at least on paper.

It was down to Presbyterians, Huguenots, Baptists, Quakers, Lutherans and non-CofE Anglicans (Episcopalians, Puritans, Congregationalists, Methodists) to pry apart the civil and religious authorities and try to prevent their snapping back together again.  They did this in North America, Australia and New Zealand.  The Anglosphere laboring to extirpate from its midst mankind’s worst and most destructive enemy: the union of civil and religious authorities.  Thus migration to the Anglosphere.  Who would not want to escape the misery of a state operating as the religious authority?  That is the definition of a criminal conspiracy and organization.

Comes Saint James Comey to snap civil and religious authorities back together again, to stitch us all up once more, once and for all.  And leading a host of the usual suspects lusting for an utopia — in their minds — of unimpaired civil power discharged under color of religious authority.
