Steve Prescott writes: The whole package is not presidential and not acceptable. The potential rewards of shifting to dignified mode are unlimited and the cost zero but apparently such is just not Trump’s way.
I think that articulation summarizes the majority of comments on this post. I understand it, I know where it comes from because I am from that place, belong to that place by birth and culture.
But — you knew that was coming — when one lives in a time of testing, when fire strikes the crucible to melt inside it the mixture of ore and dross — a time such as ours — everything goes into that crucible, to include extant and even past-proven principles and standards.
There is reason for that. Nothing in this world is incorruptible. Nothing maintains its form and energy. Wisdom, itself corruptible, counsels repairs to the crucible for additional refinement.
No one, I should think, needs convincing that the condition of the USA pre-Trump was corrupt and systemically so. The political class or elites or leader cadre or deep state — however one designates the lot — was and remains stupefyingly arrogant, self-serving, fearful and corrupt. DJT has said he would not have offered to serve as POTUS had the political class been fostering the country instead of looting us.
I think he said clearly what he wanted and why and what he meant to do and has largely waited to see if the political class would see the weeping, summon compassion and self-correct. As of early this morning, everyone knows for certain that their answer is, NO, we’re going for ourselves and you stay the hell out of our way! So now we are a nation at war against our own ruling class, who try to convince themselves they are who matter, they alone.
POTUS is changing from wait-and-see, give-’em-a-chance posture to direct combat with the deep state. In war, there is only one rule, one acceptable, presidential posture: win. Forget your standards and acceptabilities for what a POTUS should be doing or must look like. Principles you hold dear are corrupted and merit repair to the crucible. The world is not Manichean, you have no pure place of practice. War is war and you are in it, for better and not for worse. Thing is, POTUS and the movement he represents are going to win this war against their own so-called officials.
This is what I think is going on. Melania told her husband that if he ran he would win. He knew that if he won he would go to war with the deep state, the elites, the officials who abuse their country and countrymen. I think we are seeing evidence of that war’s wind up. Alarm over it is useless, a waste of time. So is fear of it.
Tony Scaramucci may go, he may stay, it does not matter. He is a fighter, a type POTUS and our countrymen need for the work ahead. POTUS knows that, I am certain.
Update 1: Sundance notes this pattern, this MO in POTUS Trump’s dealings with domestic and foreign enemies of the USA Constitution:
1- An honest attempt at an open-handed diplomacy;
2- a rebuke from the opposition in favor of the status quo;
3- sincere appeal to reconsider;
4- time for reflection, contemplation and planning;
5- a final request not to engage in combat;
6- and then the hammer.
Stages 1-5 are the anvil against which the hammer, stage 6, is meant to flatten the enemy’s will to aggress.
Update 2: Once you burrow through the institutions, they collapse behind you, you ate their supports. Then you have to burrow through the rubble. But that’s no fun because you are not wrecking anything. Now you start screaming for someone to build something so you can burrow through it. Then someone starts laughing at you, which someone should have done long since. Then you have no choice but to accept a thrust.
How to put this? It is not Donald Trump you despise. It is Americans, because they do not accept being ruled by foreigners. Donald Trump is just a figurehead. Seeking his undoing as POTUS puts you in the seat of sinners, and you cannot hide that fact, and it is decisive for your destiny, which now you cannot impede. Scratch a conservative, find leftist. Americans are good company. Conservatives are not.
New York is the smallest town I know. There are elements inside New York which are grand. Even at a distance I can see or hear them. But I left that city because its leadership, rich and poor, accepted humiliation by John Lindsay.

Update 5: Thinking of these activities as chaos is wishful. It is what NYT wants to see. It is not accurate. Generals/CEOs do not voluntarily work in a split command.
General Kelly knows the kaleidoscopic threat south of the southern border. He knows the degree to which facets of that threat are inside USA institutions, to include USG. He has at least some appreciation of the profound conflicts needed to remove those threats.
Today is not business, thinking or evaluating as usual. Tony Scaramucci knows that. These guys are finding their way to pulverize entrenched anti-American aims and sensibilities. They know much of what needs to be done and know they have to learn much as they are going.
Basic fact: they know the nation and civilization are at war for their survival and prosperity. They want to win that war and no one doubts they intend to do that. These are not quiet times. But they are normal times as rightly understood.
I am interested to see what happens with General McMaster and Dina Powell. CIA appears well-led now. I think the most consequential war is over at DoEd. It is about the Ivies, the ur-source for anti-American subversion and overt treason.
Critique from a posture of assumed superiority in a time of universal testing is risible.
Update 6: It has been suggested that the NO, NOT TRUMP! phenomenon traces back to the struggle by the Moslem Brotherhood to overwhelm USA sovereignty by infiltrating all aspects of the USG. NVKD/KGB deployed the same objective to considerable success, but to not as much success as the MB has achieved in roughly half the time.
(MB is far better financed, for one thing, and, as Arabs, assumed to be childish in their desires and amateurs at their trade, both superb covers given MB gratis by arrogantly stupid American statesmen. Marie Harf: All they need are good jobs.)
Perhaps it should be taken as progress when a NO, NOT TRUMP!er grasps that the MB is not moderate Islam. After all, if MB is being shaken out of the USG, even by little bits in fits and starts, and NO, NOT TRUMP!ers approve, that demonstrates implicit acknowledgement on the latters’ part that chaos — which must attend any radical purification of the USG — is approved, to some extent at least, if begrudgingly, by them.
