I remark that for all their trying, lefties have not been able to conjure a general mutiny by Americans. Not even by lefties or their clients. Windbags. The system bends with the winds in the few places they blow then snaps right back into place. Where the winds get a fleeting advantage and synergy, e.g., Chicago, the system seals off the area and lets ’em to it.
Related: deep state, or any politics, trying to control the culture cannot work for the reason Breitbart stressed: politics is downstream from culture. The 2016 election was about culture, not politics: America remains American, politics has to come along, it has no other choice. Breitbart told the truth.
It was experts that gave us the financial crisis, it was experts that gave us the Middle East meltdown, it was experts who gave us the obesity epidemic and the opioid crisis. And yet the experts pay no price for their failures, and cling bitterly to their credentials and self-esteem, while claiming that the problem lies in the anti-intellectualism of ordinary citizens.
UPDATE: These lines of David Mamet’s from The Verdict say it well. “You guys, you’re all the same. The doctors at the hospital, you, it’s always what I’m gonna do for you. And then you screw up and it’s ‘Uh, we did the best that we could, I’m dreadfully sorry.’ And people like us live with your mistakes.”
Terrorism and Counterterrorism are weasel words for Salafi Jihad and Fruitless Kinetics, respectively: killing without strategic accomplishment. They cover for addressing Jihadis but not Jihad. The beating heart of Jihadis is theological. Refusing to admit, face and annihilate that is burning tax-payer, student and endowment monies to warm private hands and nothing more.
No POTUS since Jefferson and Madison has taken Salafi Jihad seriously, for what it is. Perhaps the current one? We shall see.
Moslem Brotherhood (MB) is one component of the Salafi Jihad, a Saudi product whose history is coterminous with that of the USA. Other components include ISIL, AQ, Abu Sayyaf, al Shabbaab and Boko Haram. There are many others.
As often stated, MB operates (order of battle) through a blizzard of front groups with high-sounding and deceptive names, to include Hamas, CAIR, The Muslim Student Association and others romanced by the previous two USA executive administrations and especially by the State Dept. and the CIA. Through the efforts of many, to include Power Line, MB’s nature and taxonomy (order of battle) are now widely perceived and their stooges in all three federal branches are more broadly recognized.
What is missing, still, is a counter-narrative to the Salafi Jihad in toto. Pieces of it that go kinetic are addressed with kinetics, more or less. But so far, after 16 years of gazing into the burning pit, no one inside or outside American or European governments has produced a comprehensive counter-narrative that actually breaks the Salafi Jihad — all of it — at its neck and knees. Jihadis are addressed but not Jihad itself. This lacuna makes it attractive and not difficult to push gazers off the edge of the pit and into it.

Yes: Salafi Jihad, against which none so far has proposed an effective counter-narrative. In dollars spent on both kinetic and subversion operations, is not al-Saud the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism?
Another outcome is possible, and not an unhappy one: a fresh alliance of nations looking to annihilate Salafi (and Shi’ite) Jihad short-term and Chinese Imperialism long-term. My suggestion is USA, India and Russia for that one. I think its seeds are planted. I call the strategy Three Brothers Doctrine. I think Russia is not an enthusiastic partner of China overall, nor certainly of Turkey, nor of Iran. Her instincts run with those of India and the USA, for several reasons, to include religion but also geo-position and Russia’s sleep-depriving danger called the world’s longest border permeable by surface forces.
The problem I see, geo-strategically and long-term for facing the major current threat, is stationing the US Army on the western side of the Pacific Ocean in positions with Russia, India and smaller nations of the area to bring China to her senses, so to speak.
The center of gravity of an Asian nation is her army. US Army can foster that habit by being near unto it.

Its weakness: not in the open. You cannot go skulking about and expect to conquer the world. And in any case, Russia has really only one concern: her nightmarish border security, which is what Crimea, Ukraine and Balkan moves are about. She is looking at Moslem Europe and thinking of putting a buffer between that hegemon, even when Christian, and herself. She already has the Moslem hegemon to her east, south and southeast. And impossible to defend borders between them and her. Russia is behaving rationally with regard to the trans-border Moslem threat she faces, but irrationally with regard to eradicating it. Her best go at eradicating the Moslem hegemon on three of her five border fronts, minimum, is Three Brothers Doctrine.
Political correctness is fascism dressed up as good manners. Diversity is totalitarianism dressed up as compassion. Progressivism may be described, after the manner of Norman Douglas, as a quaint Parisian tutti-frutti known as I-Am-Not-Enough-I-Want-More-Of-Me.
More and more we find ourselves either being inconvenienced or having our rights violated in the name of fighting terrorism while our government lets people into the country who have a high probability of being terrorists. It makes no sense.
Abu, concur, it makes no sense. I think the abyssal reason it occurs, senselessly, is that neither feds nor think tanks nor academics nor lawyers have seen and developed a strategic counter-narrative to Salafi or Shi’a Jihad. They have gone kinetic on Jihadis. But they leave untouched Jihad itself.
I think there is such a counter-narrative: essentially, scrape away Asharite Islam (since 18th Century, called Salafi Jihad) and poison its root to reveal the Mutazilite Islam substrate that is civil and productive. The counter-narrative for that is what in classical philosophy and theology is called Reason, which is also a common meeting ground of Christianity, Hinduism and Mutazilite Islam. India is part of this business as much as Five Eyes and Russia are.
A general observation: whereas previously (since, say, 1950) POTUSs have tolerated festering sores around the globe that have killed millions and cost trillions — and employed thousands of goatee-scratching, drunken and lascivious pundit morons — this POTUS, finally, appears willing to heal the sores so they are no more and also return the goatee-scratchers to the bottom of their cups and the solace of their sheets, where they came from and belong.
There is enough truth in the Iranian PR to make it sound reasonable overall, which it is not, nor meant to be. Tulsi Gabbard (see also here and here) and credible others have been open source about elements of the US government supporting AQ and ISIS both, and over time, not just one-off.
I think what has the mullahs’ attention is a POTUS inimical to living with festering sores. Reagan himself tolerated mullah madness, or, as some say, someone at DoD countermanded Reagan’s order to not tolerate it … and made the countermand stick. In any case, mullahs like to showboat and are accustomed to being taken for a convincing act.
