Most mainline Protestant churches are, to one degree or another, post-Christian.  If they no longer seem disposed to converting the unbelieving to Christ, they can at least convert them to the boggiest of soft-left clichés, on the grounds that if Jesus were alive today he’d most likely be a gay Anglican bishop in a committed relationship driving around in an environmentally friendly car with an Arms Are For Hugging sticker on the way to an interfaith dialogue with a Wiccan and a couple of Wahhabi imams.  Mark Steyn

The Church is one who or that illuminates by conforming to the principle, ob sie Christum treiben [Martin Luther]: that which deals with, concentrates on or drives toward Christ, the intense presence of essential reality (Para-ousia … Divinity), the Prophetic Imperative, the Effusion of Love.

Who or what does not do this is not Christ, not Christian and not the Church.

The interface of eternity is a personality.

The spiritually excellent can be historically accurate.
The work of the spiritually excellent is temporally persistent.

Theology is the theory.
Scripture is the notation.
The Church is the instrument.
Life is the music.
God is the player.

Update 1: Joseph Bottum: Let’s start with the brute theological point: At its root, Christianity is a metaphysics, not an ethics.  It begins as a claim about what is, not a claim about how people ought to behave or what laws they ought to pass.
