RAMANAM
In the Name of The Father, and of The Son and of The Holy Spirit, Amen.
Countrymen,
ORBIS NON SUFFICIT
SOLUS DEUS SUFFICIT
More conservative bellyaching, running to mommy’s skirt. Education is inherently private. And it is about study, not speech. Less rather than more federal activity in education is the mature preference.
Free speech is a phenomenon appropriate to public affairs, such as at a town hall meeting or a gathering to redress grievances. It does not apply in private affairs, such as religion and education, or family life. The proposed federal legislation threatens freedom to be private, not suppression of free speech.
I think there needs occur study of the differences and dynamics of freedom and free speech. Freedom is more fundamental and therefore more precious than free speech. Free speech is like the rind whereas freedom is like the sweet fruit protected by the rind. Or again, freedom is a spiritual condition whereas free speech is a social one.
Accordingly, I believe that our most fundamental constitutional right is that which protects our spiritual condition, namely, freedom of religion, which in its deepest meaning is freedom *from* religion (i.e., no establishment — aka tax-supported — religion). Socialists and Salafists have experienced success forcing taxpayers to support their religion and are working to force taxpayers personally to profess it.
Let the schools go, let them to their self-destruction, say I. We will all be better for it, including the schools themselves.
In my view, the presumption should be against the federal government using its financial leverage to tell colleges and universities what to do. Full stop.
Update 2: The Student Left’s Culture Of Intolerance Is Creating A New Generation Of Conservatives
Update 3: Sean, all Ivy divinity schools today are Communist. None is Christian. None wants to be. None is ecumenical, either. Communist all. In a few years all will be Salafi/Shi’a blend. That will radiate out to the universities in which they lodge. From there to the culture and from the culture to the politics.
The only point at which you can right that wrong is in the culture.
The culture has to want to produce an education system, starting with seminaries, worthy of Americans and their freedom of religion, which is their most precious protected right and therefore the one Azlan and Co. are willing to die for by attacking.
