EHV: Education in Human Values and Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning represent the central focus of Swami’s Mission: Education. Education is the distinguishing mark of humanity. Sadhana or piety is education and education is sadhana. The outcome is love.
EHV is structured by the Sarva Dharma Symbol, the Symbol Swami drew “casually” on the back of an envelope in 1972. Actually, the entire Sai Era — that is, the universe in the embrace of revelation, redemption and salvation — is built from the structure this Symbol represents. That structure is the pentagon, with associated pentagram, and underlying Golden or Divine Proportion (Fibonacci Series, etc). The five curriculum areas are: Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Love and Non-Violence, respectively moving right around the Sarva Dharma Symbol from the top, from OM. These same five translate — as in Quintivium: The Integration of Inquiry, from Adwaitha Hermitage — into Philosophy, History, Government, Industry and Art, OR, counting the callings of humanity, Overview, Teacher/Priest, Ruler/Governor, Businessperson/Farmer, Artist/Laborer.
The five-fold structure arises from the five elemental principles, Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth, combinations and permutations of which produce the five senses, from which the universe proceeds. The five-ness is essential to the EHV as to sadhana in general.
Country and local organizations of Sai movement build their own EHV curricula and share what they have built. From the start, local control and adaptation, all based on the Sarva Dharma Symbol, has been encouraged.
I would suggest contact with Indian, Brazilian, British, German or Italian Sai groups for their EHV curricula or with EHV central office at Puttaparthi. USA EHV groups have done a lot of work. There is also Sathya Sai Educare to be consulted. And the Education Wing of Sai Organization. There is the extensive online Education in Human Values sponsored by Sri Sathya Sai International Center for Human Values, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. Finally, books and other publications explaining and supplying materials for Education in Human Values / Sathya Sai Educare are available at Sai Baba Society and Book Center of America.
