I admire Angelo M. Codevilla, a distinguished scholar and gentleman. This post will collect his online writings that I find.
America’s Ruling Class – And the Perils of Revolution also here and here
The Chosen One (Parallel insights by Richard Fernandez)
My impressions in re this essay by Angelo:
Ford Foundation, USAID, CIA at center of desire-for-power-driven brainlessness that harms millions.
They use the power of beguilement to cover what is really just ambition, which also causes them to in-fight: whose ambition is to dominate?
Mercer Island, WA or the 1940s and 1950s is the primary source of 0. Jewish.
International development organizations — a euphemism for CIA/Ford Foundation/USAID operations.
International business officers helped CIA — same schools, parties, spouse pools.
The network was formed to help careers of kindred and destroy, ruin others. Also to move money and influence unaccountably.
The stated goal was to influence abroad to contain — by backfires — Soviet revolutionary fires. Congress worried that the backfires would blow back on the USA. And they did.
The network was set up to do that influence in other countries and used to control USA domestic life, using schools, foundations and businesses.
The Bank of Hawaii is a secondary source of 0. Related: USA Grandparents associated with Beirut French language school.
0 Sr. was a wastrel, disappointed his father, brought to USA by CiA as an influence operation.
Stan Dunham was a CIA handler.
Tim Geitner’s father supervised Asia funding at Ford Foundation, to include microfinance programs in Indonesia developed by Ann Dunham Soetoro.
Ann ran a project for five years in Lahore, from the Hilton Hotel there. The Pakistani connection. This is the tertiary source of 0.
The President of Occidental College belonged to a group funded by CIA to promote left social values.
CIA strategy developed by Cord Meyer was: use American left — the foundation, school, business network mentioned above, the Old Left — to backfire against the Soviet, around the world.
The backfire went out of control and burned USA life and structure.
CIA/Meyer was surprised when SDS, etc., were taken over by radicals, i.e., by KGB, as the so-called New Left.
CIA then started funding the war on poverty organizations because SDS, etc., went radical/KGB.
At Columbia in 1981 0 told his mother he was against foreign donors and international development organizations in the Third World because they bred dependency. In other words, he overthrew his family — all Old Left — and was now New Left, radical, KGB, Moslem Brotherhood (Pakistan/Egypt).
The Old Left was Woodrow Wilson: America is good, needs betterment; isolationist; distrusts military.
The New Left is 0: America is bad, needs break-up, atonement, punishment; not really isolationist but rather self-absorbed; hates military.
0 language bridges Old Left and New Left in order to get money to get elected, but governs as New Left, and once in office extorts or crushes Old Left with threats or acts of New Left persecution because New Left hands are on the mechanisms of government. “She was a typical white woman.” (His Grandmother). Shows no love, sorrow, care for his mother — always the most telling signals of good character.
Ford Foundation is at the center of the Old Left network and bridging into the New Left network. Confirmed by my discussion on train from Hartford to NYC with Mario (Santini?) in 1969. Old Left network remains strong, concretizing as the international development organizations (NGOs and foundations for this and that specific fetish, always keeping locals from engaging in private development).
So who would be covering 0’s history for him, New Left or Old Left? Is CIA now New Left?
New Left mind-set: the power to act is more important than liberty. The power to act is the power to do good (forgetting it is also the power to do bad) and is more valuable than liberty. This is a seminal concept: Act = Do Good! WOW! Fascism rampant. This is the modern, extreme left of the New Left: Jarrett, Plouffe, Axelrod, 0, Psaki, Carney, their cohort.
Codevilla thinks 0 is recruited by the extreme left of the New Left because of his skin color. He can be made beyond scrutiny by charging scrutinizers with racism.
But he really represents the Old Left — crony capitalists[aka environmentalists]/foundations/CIA/Ivies, with whom he exclusively associates except for his extreme New Left staff, who are just all too happy to be in the White House, until they get disenchanted by 0’s venality, sloth and lack of assiduity for The Cause. He tricked the New Left and some of them hang on because he lets them beat on America and Americans, not really caring. His interest is in living high and nudging/coercing other areas’ (not sovereign states, just perishing areas of the one global domain he essays to rule) leaders into accepting his and his crony capitalists’ rules-based world-wide social, economic and political architecture.
0 is New Left radicalism in Old Left rhetoric. America is bad governance in an America is good posture. Total liar, to everyone!
Codevilla thinks the ruling class is that: really New Left but dissembling for public consumption as Old Left. Bill Ayers making as if he is Woodrow Wilson. 0 making as if he he cares about Americans.
Dissimulators. Liars.
Lenin at least was honest: the vanguard of the revolution is good, and the rest are evil, expendable. He did not dissemble his intentions or his frame of reference.
Codevilla: the New Left sees Americans as warped lumber. Useless. Burnable. I add: especially they see in this way children and elders. They won’t say it, but that’s how they see it — and those weaker ones.
Moreover, the amount of study required at these universities leaves their products with more pretense than knowledge or skill. The results of their management — debt, decreased household net worth, increased social strife — show that America has been practicing negative selection of [effetes].

Update 1: The first name of the Whig Party was the Country Party — the name used by Codevilla for the same phenomenon in the 21st Century — between 1649 and 1651.
Update 2: Codevilla’s ruling class/country class dialectic was usefully accurate a decade ago but not now. Now the dialectic is between patriots and oligarchs, sovereignty and mutiny. Codevilla’s country class won their war, as Codevilla predicted they would (actually, they cannot fail to win, even in a place like China or Africa). Now they are struggling to hold onto their victory in the face of mutiny against them, against their personal and national sovereignty, by those who lost the previous war, namely, Codevilla’s oligarchic ruling class. We observe now not class warfare per se but mutiny against patriots and their persons and nation states. And there are not a few patriots among the sheafs of the former ruling class, making them a valuable fifth column inside the ranks of the mutineers, who can be identified also as the legacy USA foreign policy establishment.
Hulegu commented:
I cancelled an almost 40 year subscription to NR over the NeverTrump issue. But in one sense their demise is a tribute to W F Buckley. He won, and now his commentary instrument is free to wander off into irrelevance.
David R. Graham to Hulegu
Good point. Victory is a watershed point where past struggles end and new ones begin. NR is trying to refight past struggles, i.e., trying to stay up-stream of the watershed point, the point of change in vector and substance which has occurred, irrevocably. Libertarians also are attempting the same maneuver when their structures and contents are all upstream from current reality, which in functional matters could not care less about them.
Unsurprisingly, neither NR nor Libertarians make anything new today. That is because their structures and contents are incapable of following the stream of struggles. In effect, they essay to keep stepping into the same stream. In their works, Hayward and Reynolds illustrate this phenomenon. Carlson observes it.
richard40 to David R. Graham
Many of the Trumpists who want to throw the libertarian conservatives and NR out of the repub party are also fighting the last war, not this one, which is against the leftie dems.
David R. Graham to richard40
I take your point, but I think there is a more comprehensive way to observe the developments. To wit: Trumpists are stripping the Republican Party away from its recent RINO/Libertarian/Islamocrat/NeverTrump iteration.
I had thought a new party would be formed, as a second party, because there was only one and that is destructive all around. The TEA Party movement beckoned then did not do the job, did not become a political party. The loss of Breitbart was seminal in that outcome.
But I was wrong. The movement came from within the Republican Party and has successfully retrieved it from its co-opters, ripping their hands from off of it, and restoring it to its original Whig-descent nature. Candace Owens embodies this development, which is auspicious.
