Question: Why do these professors, technocrats, NGOers, trust funders, politicians and other lumpenprolen wish to diminish or eliminate professional military organizations?
Answer: Professional military organizations thwart their genocidal impulses.
Recent Examples: Egypt, Iraq, Bosnia, Libya, Russia, Syria, Afghanistan, USA, EU, etc.
Update 1: Why would people vote into office and otherwise honor personalities who hate them, want them demeaned and destroyed? Not a few even knowingly. It staggers the imagination and subdues the patience. Why line up for procession to the box cars, even knowing what they are? Here (from 1990) and here (from 2013) are essays which treat of this demonic phenomenon.
Update 2: I think the true fascism is what comes after this collapse of moral courage through which we are compelled to poke about for survival. The true fascism has not yet shown its face, but I sense it is not far ahead and moving towards us with all deliberate speed.
Update 3: The great Thanksgiving Hymn, We Gather Together To Ask The Lord’s Blessing, is not about a Fall or any other harvest. Nor of turkeys, food and Indians. It is about punishment for sin and deliverance from extinction by the Hand of Almighty God. It is a deeply sobering paean of thanks for the providential miracle of the Divine Life descending upon one’s less-than-sterling existence.
Update 4 : It could be argued, from the nature of professional (and here and here) as compared to militia armies, that the Soviet collapsed not chiefly from economic difficulties, though these were present, but rather from the emergence, finally, of a professional army. Stalin decimated the professional military leadership of his era. But thirty and forty years later, the Red Army had time and experience to select and develop another professional cadre to lead its armed forces, and it was this cadre and its members’ families who caused the Soviet to withdraw from Afghanistan and return to an approximation of human values. Professional militaries are the guardian of human values. Soldiers recoil from harming for harm’s sake whereas citizen militias do not. Tom Clancy’s novel and movie The Hunt For October illustrates the point.
